Parky's First Joke
In the y'srd of Parkyakarkus'
<Harry Einste'n) Beverly Hills
home there is a smat; mound of
earth and a white marker leaves
no doubt of its character. When
the star of NBC's "Meet Me At
Parky's" shows his friends about
the grounds, their voices instinc-
tively lower as they spot the tiny,
carefully-tended plot. Heaving a
mournful sigh, Parky himself us-
ually brings the subject up.
"So frail, •so defenseless," he
murmers. "And such a horrible
death."
"A pet?" the visitor whispers
Sympathetically. "Your little
dog?"
"No," says Parky, "the first
joke I ever told!"

Dealer in Antiques
Once a Jewish peddler was mak-
ing his rounds when an anti-
Semite, wishing to make fun of
him, called him over and said,
"Jew, I have something to sell
you."
"What's that?"
"My cough."
"Tell me." said the Jew. "how
long have you had your cough?"
"Oh." said the other, "just a
few days."
"Sorry, not interested. Call me
after you've had the cough a
couple of years. I only buy an-
tiques."

if they would submit to baptism,1
their lot would be easier. The
priest told them he would meet
them at the church at 3 that aft-
ernoon to baptize them.
The two men appeared at the
appointed hour, but the priest
we, not there. They waited an
hour, two hours, until it was
dark.
Then one turned to the other
and said: "What should we wait
for? Let's go and daven Mincha."

Stickler for Punctuality
Isadore William Schlesinger,
who as a young man arrived pen-
nilegs in Cape Town, later to be-
come a millionaire and head of
more than 70 companies, has al-
ways been noted as a prodigious
worker.
For many years, he began his
day at 5 a. m. and was in his
office by 6 a.m. He frequently
made business appointments for
6:30 a. rn., and at 7 a. m. would
hold the first board meeting of
all his directors. They were
known as "The Dawn Patrol."
Schlesinger. was impatient with
the late riser and the unpunctual.
It is said he once gave a man an
appointment for 5:30 a.m. The
man assumed that he was ex-
pected in the afternoon and
turned up sharp at 5:30 p. m. He
never got another appointment.

One of the current stories run-

Very Best Wishes For a

The economic • Bureau of the Palestine Foundation Fund has pre-
pared the above charts to show the trend of business last year in the
Jewish Homeland. The rapid growth of Palestine within the past
years becomes apparent in these charts. Wages are now eight times
above the 1939 level, and the number of working days which reached
its peak in the war year 1943, has only slightly decreased. The volume
of imports, in some instances, is up more than three times above those
in 1939, while in other instances imports could be cut considerably

Pianist Rubinstein's Rival
The celebrated pianist, Arthur
Rubinstein., tells of a mildly dis-
concerting experience with his
little daughter, Eva. Returning
from a long tour the pianist was
warmly greeted by the young-
ster, who ran to his arms,
hugged him, and begged, "Oh,
daddy, play for me!"
"Why, certainly darling!" he
exclaimed, resolved to play as
he had never played before. He
sat the child down beside him on
the piano bench, and opened the
instrument.
"No, no!" protested the young-
ster, squirming down from the
bench and making for the pho-
nograph, "Play this!"
