Albert Einstein Tops

With Local Teenagers

By ALICE JEAN HARRIS

The Jewish News has completed a survey to determine
who, in the eyes of Detroit Jewish teenagers, would be the ace
candidate for a Jewish Hall of Fame. Each nominee was born
a Jew and was outstanding in his own field.
The list of candidates included 30 prominent person-
alities, both men and women, of the past and present.

After questioning over 100 v
boys and girls, the tabulated re-
sults show that Dr. Albert Ein-
stein is their eminent choice.
Therefore we are publishing a
biographical sketch of Dr. Ein-
stein which will help to show
why he was chosen.
One of the distinguished scien-
tists of our day, winner of the
Nobel Prize, Albert Einstein is
best known for his theory of rela-
tivity. But in other branches of
physics he has also made a num-
ber of salient studies, and is
known as the god-father of the
atomic •age.
Born in Ulm, Germany. May
14; 1879, Albert was not like the
average youngster. When his
father bought him a compass,
meant to be a toy to amuse the
child, Albert shook as he gazed
upon the "magic" needle pointing

A strong Zionist, he is very
much in favor of Palestine as a
Jewish national homeland. Ein-
stein is deeply unhappy over the
fact that there are still thousands
of displaced Jews suffering in
Europe who really should be
living in Palestine.
The storm broke in Berlin in
1933. Adolf Hitler had moved in
to take over German affairs. Beg-
ging Einstein to return, Hitler
said he would "overlook the fact
that lie (Einstein) was a Jew."
