THE HAGUE (JPS) — The
Netherlands Israelitish Church
Association, governing board of
all synagogues in the Netherlands,
declared that it did not agree
with the plans to open territory
in Surinam (Dutch Guiana) for
Jewish refugee olonization. Such
plans, according to the association,
would never lead to a definite
solution of the Jewish problem.
Surinam, a jungle ridden tropical
land on the northeast coast of
South America, has been boomed
by the Freeland League as a
haven for Jewish refugees.

The English-language Palestine

Post stresses the significance of
the immigration recommendation
and urges Britain, as a first step,
to return the Exodus refugees to
Palestine.
LONDON (Palcor)—Most Brit-
ish newspapers favor the major-
ity report. The Manchester Guar-
dian alone feels that the report is
unfair to the Arabs.
The Observer notes that UNS-
COP is unanimous that the Brit-
ish mandate be ended as soon as
possible. "If the Assembly agrees,

the UN will tackle its first task
of administration duirng Pales-
tine's transition period. Mr. Sevin
will be more than unwise if he
hesitates to agree."
The Standard says that the re-
port must be regarded "as an op-
portunity for Britain to accede
to a realistic policy while avoid-
ing lone responsibility for the
risks involved."
Chances of Majority Plan
The Times says that "both plans
are compromises, but that of the
majority stands a better chance
of securing the support, at least,
of moderate-minded Jewry; it
will never be accepted by the
Arabs, but it is calculated to ap-
peal to international opinion as
an honest attempt to judicate be-
tween two claimants."
The Chronicle urges Britain to
reserve her attitude, leaving the
initiative to the Jews, Arabs and
UN. UNSCOP has failed to out-
line Britain's role in Palestine.
