graduate of the Jewish Theologi-

delphia, served for 18 years as
rabbi of Adath Israel Congrega-
tion, Trenton, N. J. He has lec-
tured at a number of adult in-
stitutes, including Shaarey
Zedek's Layman's Institute last
fall. and, is a contributor to out-
standing Jewish publications.
Cantor Garen, New York City,
was born in Czechoslovakia. He
studied cantorial and modern
liturgical music in Budapest. Be-
sides having officiated in Uzhor-
od, Budapest and Prague, he has
also conducted services in Bos-
ton, since his arrival in the United
States about a year ago.

Children's Rosh Hashanah ser-

Temple at 2:20 p. m. Monday,

at the children's service. Rabbi
Akselrad will preach the ser-
monette.
Temple Beth El's religious
school will open Sept. 20 and 21.
Classes for the junior high de-
partment (sixth through ninth
grades) will begin Saturday
morning, Sept. 20. The primary,
intermediate and high school de-
partments open Sunday morning,
Sept. 21. Rabbi Akselrad is di-
rector of religious education.
New pupils may register in the
school office from 9 a. m. to 5
p. m. daily. Children from the
age of four are accepted.
The school will be under the
general supervision of Dr. B.
Benedict Glazer, with Mrs. Sam-
uel Mendelsohn as student-facul-
ty advisor, Rosalind Schubot as
registrar, and a staff of 39 teach-
ers.
