Philanthropies Appeal
NEW YORK (JTA)—Victor S.
Riesenfeld, prominent N. Y. busi-
nessman, has been appointed
chairman of the 30th annual ap-
peal of the Federation of Jewish
Philanthropies of New York, and
will direct the activities. of 10.000
volunteer workers in trades,
boroughs and women's groups, it
was announced here by Norman
S. Goetz, president of the Feder-
ation. The Federation will seek
to raise the funds to maintain and
operate during the current year
116 affiliated medical, health and
social welfare institutions and
agencies.

Joint Distribution Committee sup-
ply chief for Germany, flew to
Marseilles to obtain 2,000 Pales-
tinian "esrogim' and "lulavim"
for distribution for the Succoth
holidays to Jews in DP camps
and other places in Germany. ,
The death of Marvin Bertram
Spevakow on Tuesday, after an
illness of only three days, came
as a shock to hundreds of his
fellow-students at Central High
School and the Shaarey Zedek
and to many scores of friends of
the family who admired the boy's
character and scholarship.
Son of Mr. and Mrs. Nathan
Spevakow of 2215 Hazelwood,
Marvin was born in Detroit 15
years ago. He was graduated
from the United Hebrew Schools
and the Shaarey Zedek Sunday
School and at the time of his
death was a 12th grade student
at Central and Shaarey Zedek
High Schools.
He was a member of the Cen-
tral track team and was active
in AZA, Boy Scouts and Senior
Judaea.
Dr. A. M. Hershman, Rabbi
Morris Adler and Cantor J. H.
Sonenklar officiated at funeral
services at the Kaufman Funeral
Home on Wednesday. Burial was
in Clover Hill Park Cemetery.
