Cohen conferred here with rep-
resentatives of the International
Ladies Garment Workers Union,
the Amalgamated Clothing Work-
ers Union, and the United He-
brew Trades and said later that
they felt that the proposed Quoddy
project involved no use of "slave
labor," as had been feared' by
labor groups.
Meanwhile, following a meet-
ing with the Eastport City Coun-
cil, a War Assets Administration
spokesman stated that the city
plan to use Quoddy Village as a
DP training center was ineligible
for "public benefit allowance:*
since the project would be pri-
marily industrial, rather than ed-
ucational. The.-decision, if up-
held in Washington, will make it
difficult to set up the project,
since Eastport would be obliged
to purchase the site at a figure
near its assessed $398,055 value,
and also the necessary equipment
