Recent developments in the Ex-
odus case as reported in JTA dis-
patches are summarized in the
following paragraphs:
• The United States is concerned
about the refugees now being
sent to Hamburg on British ships,
Acting Secretary of State Robert
A. Lovett told a press conference.
He said the government is in con-
stan t touch with the British, seek-
ing information on the matter.
• A day of fasting and religious
services has been called by Ar-
gentine Jewry to express solidar-
ity with the Exodus refugees.
• More than ten thousand Ger-
man and Polish refugees were
moved by the British authorities
in Germany from two camps
along the Soviet border in Schles-
wig-Holstein to make room for
the Exodus refugees. Prepara-
tions are being made to house
about 3000 at Poppendorf and the
remainder in Am Stau.
• Commenting on the reported
offer of the Danish government
to admit the Exodus refugees to
a Jewish Agency
Denmark,
spokesman said that in the Agen-
cy's opinion the best solution is
to take the refugees to Palestine.
• Jews in Palestine fasted to
demonstrate their solidarity with
the Exodus refugees. Cafes and
places of entertainment closed
clown and throngs filled the syna-
gogues where special prayers
were read. The 15,000 deportees
on Cyprus participated in the
fast. About 170,000 Jews in the
western zones of Germany also
observed a day of fasting and
prayer in protest against the re-
turn to Germany of the Exodus
refugees.
• Several hundred pickets in
New York paraded before the
British
consulate to protest
against the deportation of the
refugees to Germany. A cable
was sent to the refugees on the
British ships stating that 65,000
members of the American Zion-
ist, labor movementsupport their
struggle to reach Palestine.
• The United Zionist Council,
representing all Zionist groups in
Canada, has sent a protest to the
British government in connec-
tion with the Exodus case.
