Choosing Saturday night, Sept. 6—the first Selichot night—for this purpose, the rabbis and the religious lay leaders in co- operation with the Zionist Council plan to devote an hour preceding repentance ser- vices to addresses by outstanding leaders. All orthodox and conservative syna- gogues are participating and have issued a call to worshippers to be in their seats in their synagogues at 10 p. m. Saturday. (JTA) — The World Zionist Executive adopted a resolu- tion in which it "notes with satisfaction" the UNSCOP majority report recommending the establishment of a Jewish State. The resolu- tion, which was approved by the Actions Committee, points out, however, that the proposed Jewish State contains only a frac- tion of the territory promised the Jewish people and does not include certain areas of importance. "The Executive will, after further study, present the view of the Jewish Agency at the forthcoming General Assembly," the resolu- tion continues. "The definite attitude of. the Jewish people will be determined after the Assembly makes its decisions." The resolution flatly rejects the minority proposal for a federal state, declaring that it would convert Palestine into an Arab state with a Jewish minority. Fritz Bernstein of Aliyah Hadasha and Moshe Sneh, General Zionist, dissented from the resolution, stating that it would be better to maintain silence until further develop- Inents. Hashomer Hatzair and Achduth Avo- dah are preparing an opposition resolution proposing a united free Palestine after a tran- sition period under a UN trusteeship. With the Actions Committee sessions set to end on Wednesday, many Americans left on Tuesday and others on Wednesday to catch the Queen Mary. Dr. Emanuel Neu- mann and Daniel Frisch are remaining to await further developments. The political commission voted to author- ize the Executive to expand the Jewish Agency by taking steps to convene the Coun- cil of the Agency which includes non- Zionists. As Jews all over the world prepare to usher in the year 5708, SOS calls from the poorest of the poor, the displaced and homeless Jews in Europe, reach every corner of the earth. By letter and by pictures they tell their unbelievable story—two years after the war's end. In the midst of ruin, the Statue of Liberty is their indestructible ray of hope, and .their prayers, as symbolized in the accompnying pictures, are that American Jewry will extend a helping hand to them during the High Holidays for the United Jewish Appeal for the relief programs of the Joint Distribution Committee, United Palestine Appeal and the United Service for New Americans. The pictorial pleas on this page were drawn by Jewish DPs in Europe for the UJA's "Ten Days of Repentance" appeals.
