Jacob Rogvoy — T ribute

By THEODORE BARUCH

Seldom is an individual so completely an embodiment of
the highest ideals of his profession as was Jacob Rogvoy. The
calling of the teacher—both secular and Jewish—was en-
nobled by his very affiliation with it. For he was innately an
educatorearnest, devoted, high-minded and enthusiastic.
No phase of the pedagogue's task—clerical, administrative,
disciplinary—was too menial or commonplace not to merit
his whole-souled attention.
An instructor and administrator in the Congregation
Shaarey Zedek Religious School for almost a quarter of a
century, he guided and shaped the intellectual and moral
growth of hundreds of Jewish adolescents and inspired them
with love and veneration for their people's traditions. As a
teacher in the Detroit high schools, he played a similar role
among thousands of non-Jewish young people. Contact with
his personality left one rejuvenated and strengthened in his
faith in humankind.
Of him, as of the Biblical Enoch, it may be truly written:
"He walked with God—and God took him."
