Truman Reassures Zionists
Of Continued Sympathies
WASHINGTON, D. C.,
(JPS) — Indicating that he
would press next session of
Congress to act on bills pro-
viding for the admission into
this country of large numbers
of DPs, President Truman told
a press conference here that,
as he' viewed it, "we all are
descendents of displaced per-
sons. Two proposals for the
admission of DPs are now be-
for Congress. The Stratton
bill, introduced in the House,
calls for the admission of 400,-
000 DPs over a four-year
period. Another bill, proposed
in the Senate, calls for the ad-
mission of smaller numbers,
but contains, in the opinion of
some observers, prejudicial
phrasing.

Hirsh Alper, Former Shaarey Zedek

more than 20 years.
As Shaarey Zedek shamos, he
was highly revered for his piety,
and his deep-rooted knowledge
of the Talmud. He built a large
following here among many
young men who, having come to
Shaarey Zedek for daily services
mourning,
during periods of

COAL is
AIL
the SAFE fuel
Detroit home owners who burn coal to heat their homes can
ignore the city ordinance above. A fire-extinguisher may be a handy
and foresighted thing to have about the house . . . but there's no law
that says you must keep one near your furnace when you burn coal.
Because COAL is the SAFE fuel . . . it ignites only when you want it to;
it cannot leak, seep or spill, needs no pipes or storage tanks that may
become defective. Fires caused by home-heating fuels may be few
. . . but when you burn COAL you reduce your personal odds to the
absolute minimum.
-
Your Local Coal Merchant will help you get the Best out of Coal
Its safety is only one of the valuable, often unique qualities
of Coal as a fuel. Your local retail coal merchant would like
to point out the others to you . . . and how to keep your
furnace or stoker operating at top efficiency and economy.
His counsel is free.

was in the process of resigning. Gruenbaum's reference to
a resignation apparently was based on the dissatisfaction
with Ben-Gurion's pro-partition testimony before UNSCOP.
Accusing Ben-Gurion of pouring oil on fire, Gruenbaum
declared that he would "never assist in a- pact between Ben-
Gurion and Bevin against Beigin (Irgun commander)."
Gruenbauth threatened to resign if the Actions Committee
disagreed with his views.
Moshe Shertok interrupted Gruenbaum to state that
Ben-Gurion just arrived in Zurich and had not consulted
the executive on terrorism. On Monday night, Shertok at-
tacked terrorism as the greatest danger to the Yishuv and
demanded a real fight on the Bergsonites in America. Dis-
cussingthe UNSCOP, he said that a majority favors parti-
tion and-a minority bi-nationalism, but that it is difficult to
forecast the findings. He added that despite UN's desire to
solve the problein speedily, a long delay and many postpone- Rabbi Eichenstein Aids
