As the Jews of the world are about to wel come a new year, their thoughts are with the sur-
vivors of Nazi brutalities, who, two years after the war, are still homeless and "undesirables." Our
pictures show United Jewish Appeal's constructiv e help to give them a new lease on life. Thousands
were 'transported by UPA to Palestine and other countries (I); more than 17,000 are waiting for
this moment on Cyprus (2); youths get spiritual he 1p and food in their camps through JDC (3 and 4);

man last week made a new promise to retain the
friendly attitude of the United States to Zionism,
Dr. Abba Hillel Silver revealed in an address on
Tuesday before the Zionist Actions Committee.
Declaring that there is no reason for pessimism
concerning the final position which the United States
will take on the UNSCOP recommendations and that
the State Department will not support an anti-Zionist

Israel.
Deploring the divisions among U. S. Zionists,
Dr. Silver urged a definite program in America to
combat anti-Zionist propaganda which was strength-

He said that [American Jews believe in a militant
policy, including a possible eventual boycott of Brit-
ish goods and support for an active resistance move-

but by Jewish statesmanship aimed at uniting all
resistance forces in Palestine under national disci-

A bitter debate developed on Tuesday morning
on the question of terrorism, when David Ben-
Gurion, in an impassioned two-hour address, de-
manded a merciless fight on terror, adding that
those refusing to fight terror should by all means
be expelled from the movement.
Isaac Gruenbaum replied that he also is opposed
to terror, but that this is no time to start a civil war.
He challenged Ben-Gurion's statement, charging
that Ben-Gurion was not speaking for the executive
and added parenthetically that anyway Ben-Gurlbn

with Jewish sur-
vivors from Nazism. Eagerly watching for a sight of the Holy Land,
even the 500 Jewish war orphans who were brought to Palestine
by the Jewish Agency were placed in wire cages on a British ship
which transported them from Cyprus. Palestine youth settlements
have begun to care for these youngsters until their adoption.
