HOLLYWOOD—From its crude
nativity in a rebuilt Arab home
outside Jerusalem, a Palestinian
film industry is taking shape in
the plans of Norman Lourie, and
in two feature-length pictures,
"My Father's House" and "The
House in the Desert," which will
probably vie for the honor of
being the first ever produced in
the Holy Land.
''My Father's House" already
has arrived here under the arm
of Herbert Kline, newspaperman,
who co-produced it with Meyer
Levin, the novelist. Lourie, after
completing "House in the Desert,"
has just announced the formation
of Palestine Films, Inc., and plans
to start another production this
October from a script by play-
wright S. N. Behrman.
"Palestine is ideally suited for
film production," Kline says,
By BORIS SMOLARI.
"since its climate is conducive
to exterior photography."

Communists Disturb Convert
Of Palestinians in Prague
PRAGUE, (TTA)—A number of
disturbances interrupted a Pales-
tinian concert here in connection
with the World Youth Festival.
A delegation of Palestine Com-
munists protested the singing of
Hatikvah at the opening of the
concert and the hanging of the
Zionist flag from the rostrum. At
the end of the affair, differences
were ironed out by displaying the
Zionist, Communist and Palestine
Arab flags, to represent the three
delegations attending the festival.
LONDON (JTA)—The British
press reports that a petition is
being circulated here to demand
the resignation of all Jewish
members of Parliament and to
bar them as candidates in future
elections.
Police halted a public meeting
of the pro-fascist British League
of ex-Servicemen in the Wiles-
don district of London after the -
audience overturned the speak-
ers' platform. At a meeting in
Chelsea called to protest the
hanging of two British soldiers
in Palestine members of the au-
dience objected to the anti-Jew-
ish speeches of the speakers.
Meanwhile, a left-wing group
opened a week-long campaign to
fight fascism and anti-Semitism
with a parade through the pre-
dominantly Jewish - populated
East End of London.
BUDAPEST, (JVA)—The Office
of Abandoned Property was li-
quidated by a decree of the Hun-
garian Government and all heir-
less and abandoned Jewish prop-
erty will be transferred to the
JewisheRehabilitation Fund. The
government also nullified all
property transactions involving
Jews after December, 1944. This
move is expected to bring new
sums into the Rehabilitation Fund
as Jewish property is recovered.

Zionist Trends
The session of the Zionist Actions Cominittee, supreme Zionist

body between Congresses, may bring many surprises for American
Zionists ... It opens next week jn Switzerland in a different spirit
Sold and Installed
than that which pervaded the World Zionist Congress which was
also held there, last December . . ,While the Congress dealt with
major Palestine problems more or less theoretically, the Actions
Committee will have to deal with them in a more concrete way .. .
It will have to decide whether to accept the recommendations of the
UN. 3-2668
UN Special Committee on Palestine . . . And it will also have to
make a definite and practical decision as to how to deal with the
extremists in Palestine ... Serious differences of opinions among the
members of the Actions Committee are foreseen.
The American Zionist delegation will this time also play a lead-
ing role, similar to the one it played at the congress ... But between
the last session of the congress and the present time many new
developments have arisen ... There were the British-Arab talks in
London, there was the special UN Assembly on Palestine, there was
the speech by Andrei Gromyko which clarified Moscow's position
vis-a-vis the Zionist request for the establishment of a Jewish state
in Palestine, there was the "Exodus" affair, and there is mounting
Arab-Jewish tension in Palestine ... Not to speak of the forthcoming
fight at the General Assembly. . . These developments require
decisions which will be of historic importance, affecting the entire
future of Palestine.
Actions Committee will
I think one can safely predict that
demand the convocation of a Zionist congress as early as possible
without waiting for the usual two-year interval between congresses
. The Palestine issue is approaching a climax, and the convocation
of a World Zionist Congress before the end of this year is therefore
practically unavoidable.
