UN Urged to Reject
Yemen's Admission

Charging that plavery still ex-
ists' in Yemen, Prof. James H.
Sheldon, administrative chairman
of the non-sectarian anti-Nazi
League, has urged the United Na-
tions Security Council to delay
Yemen's admission into the UN.
Yemen has been actively seek-
ing , admission into the United
Nations.
Sheldon declared that condi-
tions there had not been improved
since the League of Nations Tem-
porary Slavery Commission in
1925 condemned the shipment of
slaves from Africa to the Arabian
Coast. He also criticized the pres-
ent anti-Semitic propaganda ac-
tivities participated in by Yemon
through the Arab Office and other
agencies. -
- Sheldon also wired President
Truman asking him to instruct
the American delegation to op-
pose the Arabian country's ad-
mission.
Yemen is one of the seven Arab
states which constitute the Arab
League represented in Washing-
ton by the Arab Office.
