ACTIVITIES IN SOCIETY

Miss Marcia. Ermann of Merton Rd. left on Wednesday to join.

Rockies. Mrs. Ermann accompanied her daughter to Cincinnati
where she will visit with friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Crohn of Wildeiriere Ave. left on Sunday
for the east where they will visit with members of their farriily, and
also will attend the Music Festival in the Berkshires.
Miss Henrietta Jacobs of the Seward 'Hotel left by plane last
Saturday to spend a fortnight in California.
Miss Rosalie Mayer of Boston Blvd. left for a stay in Charlevoix.
Mr. and Mrs. Bert Gould and son, Richard, left on Sunday for
a stay in Frankfort.
Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Oppenheim of Whitmore Rd. left on
Sunday by motor for a visit in New York and Washington, D. C.
Mrs. Joseph Zackheim has returned to her home in Buffalo
following a few weeks' visit with her brother-in-law and sister, Mr.
and Mrs. Maurice Zackheim of Webb Ave. •
Mrs. Harry Rosman of Boston Blvd. and Mrs. Irving Shevin of
Parkside Ave. left last Friday on the SS Noronic on a cruise to
Duluth.
Mrs. Davis Benson, her daughter, Sharon, and son, Ronald, have
left for Atlantic City to join her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Abraham
Cohen of Ephrata. Pa., for the remainder of the summer.
Mr. and Mrs. Leonard N. Simons of Parkside Ave. returned
on Tuesday from Portland, Me., where they went to visit their
daughters. Mary Lou and Susan, who are at Camp Wenohah.
Mr. and Mrs. Simon Baer and their two small children of Ken-
tucky Ave. left on Sunday for Frankfort.
Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Eder are spending a few weeks in New
York and Atlantic City.
Mrs. Morris Higer and her sister, Miss Lulu Levy of Birchcrest
Dr. are spending a fortnight in Charlevoix.
Mrs. Samuel Glickman of Miami Beach, Joseph Garvett of
Miami and Mr. and Mrs. Sol Vatz of Pittsburgh are spending the
week visiting with members of their family.
Mrs. David Kallman and daughter, Shirley, of Canterbury Rd.
left on Sunday for Chicago where they will be guests for '10 days
at the Edgewater Beach Hotel. Upon their return they plan to go
for a stay in Frankfort.
Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Rose of Collingwood Ave. have returned from
a visit to New York. They will spend the next two weeks at Green-
bush Inn in Greenbush, Mich.

Detroit AZA No. 63 Jewish Captain Awarded
Cops 6 Top Awards $4,000 in Libel Damages
At Cleveland Tourney LONDON (JTA)—Capt. Neil F.

Detroit Chapter No. 63 of Aleph
Zadik Aleph took six first-place
awards at the annual Ohio-Mich-
igan AZA Athletic Tournament
held July 18 to 20 in Cleveland.
Chapter 63 won the tournament
baseball championship, and took
first place in five track events: 1
Mary Liberson won the 100-yard
dash and the broad jump: Sonny
Taub won the half-mile; rman
Licht won the mile; and Taub,
Mary Rosen, Paul Fink and Mil-
ton Landau made up the winning
team in the 440 relay.
Detroit's Seymour Sobole chap-
ter was the runner-up in the
baseball elimination.
The athletic awards were pre-
sented at the tournament's clos-
ing banquet Sunday evening. by
Aaron Zucker, Eastern Ohio re-
gional director.
The Detroit planning commit-
, tee for the tournament included
Hal Portnoy, chairman; Arnold
Shoichet, Lawrence Stockier and
Sandford Blavin.

Mr. and Mrs. Morris Friedman

Betty, to Martin Sorkowitz, son
of Mr. and Mrs. S. Sorkowitz
of 2005 Pingree Ave.
The wedding took place June
22 at the Shaarey Zedek, Rabbi
Morris Adler officiating.
The bride wore a gown of
white lace and chiffon, and car-
ried a white Bible decorated
with an orchid and trailing
streamers.
The bride's matron of honor
was Mrs. E. Rechtman, and her
bridesmaids were Mrs. F. Sor-
kow, Miss Florence Abromovich,
and Miss Maureen Gach.
The bridegroom's best man was
his brother, Fred Sorkow. Edwin
Rechtman, Marvin Silverstein
and Dale Weller were ushers.
The ceremony was followed by
a reception for 300 guests. Among
those present from out of town I
were Cantor and Mrs. Saul
Meisels of Cleveland: Mr. and
Mrs. I. Sorkowitz, Fred Mar-
gareten and I. Mankutta of New
York, and Mr. and Mrs. M. Rice
of Cleveland.
After the wedding, the young
couple left for Mukoska Lodge,
Canada, where they spent their
honeymoon.

damages in a libel action against
the Daily Graphic and other
newspapers for a story published
last November purporting that
Israel was engaged in conveying
illegal immigrants to Palestine.
The plaintiff served in the Roy-
al Navy during the war where
he had a distinguished record.
The Graphic published a promi-
nently-displayed apology, blam-
ing the error on its correspondent.
