Praesidium Problem

MUNICH. (JTA)—The three-
day rabbinical conference, open-
ed asupiciously by Gen. Lucius
D. Clay, closed with a large bloc
of delegates leaving ...the meet-
ing in protest aaginst the make-
up of the seven-man praesidium
elected.
. The split developed when most
elderly Hungarian rabbis were
elected to the praesidium. The
dissident group demanded some
representation for younger ele-
ments and also for political
parties, such as the Agudas
Irsael and the Mizrachi. The
older group refused, stating the
praesidium must be free from
politics and must consist of older
rabbis in' order to "command
respect."
