the formal opening of the Latin-
American Conference of the
World Jewish Congress.
Dr. Nahum Goldmann, who
was the principal speaker, said
that concessions wevill have to be
made to secure a solution of the
Palestine problem, but added
that the Yishuv is sufficiently
strong "to prevent the exclusion
of Jewry from the world's
agenda."
Dr. Goldman deplored the
anti-British propaganda of cer-
tain Jewish circles and scored
terrorism as""a political crime."
He aserted that establishment of
a Jewish state will not solve the
problem of the world's Jews,
since for many years a. majority
will continue to live outside of
Palestine. He stressed the im-
portance of the World Jewish
Congress as "a guarantee of Jew-
ish unity."
(Mrs. Morris L. Schaver of De-
troit, was guest soloist at the
opening meeting. She presented a
program of songs of the DP
camps of Europe.)
The meeting hall was bedecked
with huge banners demanding
dissolution of the DP camps, un-
restricted immigration into Pales-
tine and adoption of an open
-door immigration policy by all
countries. The conference ap-
proved a resolution expressing
its solidarity with the Jewish
Agency.
