• Page Seven THE JEWISH NEWS - Friday, June 27, 1947 Congregational Activities 'Light' Script Reveals Refugee's Dramatic Tale Excavation Started For NW Synagogue .M1,.. ■ •••• ■ • Excavation for the new syna- gogue of the Northwest Hebrew Congregation and Center at Curtis and Santa Rosa began this week, it was announced by Ira G. Kaufman, president, and J. Maurice Karo, chairman of the building committee. It is expected the social hall, which will accommodate in ex- cess of 1600 people, will be ready for occupancy for the High Holydays in September. Plans are to continue work on the school building and the syna- gogue proper to accommodate the membership, which now numbers 500 families. The synagogue is in the process of having auditions for the post of cantor. Services continue mornings, at 8 a. m. and evenings, at 8 p. m. Sabbath services are conducted at 9 a. in. Sabbath evening ser- vices begin at 6:15 p. m. and allow for Rabbi Jacob E. Segal's discourse on the "Ethics of the Fathers" which is followed by Shaal Hasudas. The community is invited to the services. "Case History," an original radio script by Arnold Perl, will be broadcast on the Eternal Light radio program at 8 a. in. Sunday, June 29 on station WWJ. Based on actual incidents in the life of Walter Ivanyi, a Hun- garian-Jewish dental technician, now living in this country, "Case History" tells Ivany's extra- ordinary story of how be was forced into the deadly work of a human mine detector for the Germany Army and how he sur- vived to come to this country with his wife and two children. At the close of the program there will be a brief address by Dr. Israel m. Goldman, president of the Rabbinical Assembly of America, national organization of the Conservative rabbinate. An institute for the training of Temple executives in syna- gogue administration will be held in New York, June 30 through July 4, under the joint sponsor- ship of National Association of Hebrew Temple Secretaries, Union College and Union of American Hebrew Congregations. The Institute will aim to serve three types- of persons: 1. Trainees for the position of temple secretary to fill vacancies 2.
