To Prevent Murder
Of Religious Groups
LAKE SUCCESS, (JTA)—The
fu ,t United Nations draft of an
international conuntion to out-
law genocide, issued here, lists.
as its purpose the prevention of
the destruction of racial, national,
lingiustie, religious and political
group;.
The three types of genocide de-
fined are: physical genocide, kill-
ing or putting in such condition
that death or loss of life is inevit-
able—impilsonment in concentra-
tion camps, starvation and medi-
cal experiments on human sub-
jects, biological genocide, consist-
ing of actions tending to prevent
life and to kill a human group
through delayed action—steriliza-
tion, breaking up families, ob-
structing marriages; and cultural
genocide, the destruction of spe-
cific characteristics of a group or
obliteration of its spiritual life
and culture.
Included in the last category
are such acts as: stealing children
fur purposes of imposing on them
the racial or natural character of
another group; systematic and
forceful removal of persons repre-
senting the culture of the group;
systematic destruction of works
of art, museums, libraries, church-
es and historical documents, pro-
hibition of the use of the native
tongue.
Detroit Teachers Attend
Intercultural Workshop
The Detroit Round Table of
Catholics, Jews and Protestants,
through the cooperation of a
number of community organiza-
tions and interested individuals,
including the Jewish Community
Council, will provide scholarships
to summer workshops in inter-
cultural education for teachers
in the Detroit public schools for
the fifth consecutive year.
The workshops are being held
at the University of Chicago, the
University of Wisconsin and Rut-
gers University.
Those receiving the awards in-
clude June Leonard, 1707 Sew-
ard, Higgins School, and Alexan-
der Lipson, 1614 Elaine, Garfield

Eighth Annual W ar V eterans
Convention Here, June 28.29
The eighth annual convention
of the Department of Michigan
Jewish War Veterans of the
United States will take place
June 28 and 29 at Department
headquarters, 8812 Twelfth.
Saturday evening, June 28,
will be devoted to an open house
goodwill function, at which vet-
erans, civic and fraternal repre-
sentatives will be present.
An entertainment program by
the Military Order of the Purple
Heart Cadets under the leader-
ship of George Kapilla, will pro-
vide vaudeville acts. David Gut-
man, department baritone, ac-
companied by Miss Maryan
Fleisher, pianist, will render
selections.
This function will be open to
all members of the 19 posts and
15 auxiliaries of the Department
of Michigan Jewish War Vet-
erans.
On Sunday, June 29, business
sessions will feature resolutions,
departmental reports, and elec-
tion of officers.
A large number of disabled
veterans of the Dearborn U. S.
Army Facilities Hospital will be
guests Saturday. They will be
taken to Briggs Stadium for the
Tiger game. In the evening they
will be guests at a dinner.
Rudolf Stein, rehabilitation and
welfare officer, and his commit-
tee, arranged the program for
the disabled veterans.

sion July 31. Tickets are avail-
