What was the reason for the separation of
the Kingdom •f Israel and Judah?
On the death of Solomon, 977 B.C., a revolt broke
out among the tribes comprising the united king-
dom. Solomon had taxed the people heavily, and
Rehoboam, his son, refused to decrease the taxes.
Ten tribes seceded and formed an independent
kingdom called the kingdom of Israel, leaving
Rehoboam only Judah and Benjamin, forming, the
kingdom of Judah. Israel - lapsed int, idolatry and

`Rabid anti-Zionists whose attitudes on
Jewish issues often is tainted with anti-
Semitism have been conducting a drive to
arouse "pity" for the "poor, oppressed Arabs."
A pamphlet by an American mining en-
gineer, K. S. Twitchell, published by Prince-
ton University, attempts to interpret Saudi
Arabia, giving the impression that it is "an
account of the emergence of a little known
nation into the modern world." Meanwhile it
glorifies Ibn Saud and gives a one-sided view
of the situation in Palestine.
Much space has been given to the Arab
claims that the background material prepared
by the United Nations for its inquiry com-
mittee is "unfair" to the Jews.
This propaganda campaign is being pur-
sued in spite of the fact that the Arabs are so
well represented in the UN, while Jewry
has no voice at all!
Interesting light on the "poor Arab" situ-
ation is thrown\as follows in a recent editorial
in the London Zionist Review under the head-
ing "The 'Oppressed' Arabs":

A considerable number of Egyptian laborers
have lately been flocking to Palestine. About 800
have settled down en the outskirts of Rishon-
le-Zion alone. (During the winter there were as
many as 1,200.) They work in citrus plantations
and on fields at 300 mils a day—much to the
displeasure of local Arab laborers whose daily
wages are between 400-500 mils. Having saved a
certain amount of money, some of the laborers
have returned to Egypt but they make their way
back to Palestine without any interference from
the authorities. They are not even required to
carry an identity card. Similar immigrants enter
Palestine from Syria, the Lebanon and Trans-
Jordan.
These facts may well be considered at a time
when the Mandatory Power is a.sking for the co-
operation of friendly governments in order to
stop "illegal" Jewish immigration and when
Arab delegates at the UN keep on plugging the
old line of a "Jewish lava:ion" of Palestine."
