Detroit ORT Chapter Names Mrs. Becker President for Year manian parliament adopted a sweeping citizenship refcnin law which wipes out thousinds of grievances of Romanian Jews, some of which date back 30 years. The vote on the measure backed by all Jewish organiza- tions in the country was 188-2. The new law provides that all persons who have resided in Ro- manian territory since 1920 auto- matically acquire citizenship. This provision even includes per- sons who failed to register for Romanian citizenship after World War I. In addition, all persons repatriated from terri- tory ceded to the USSR or to be repatriated will retain their full citizenship status, provided they were Romanian residents before June 28, 1940. The measure also cancels all discriminatory legislation im- posed by the Goga and Cuza pro- Nazi governments which de- prived tens of thousands of Jews of citizenship rights and made them "stateless."
