fold aim:

"1. It hopes to develop a
greater familiarity with some of
the key-passages in the Book,
together with the context in
which they occur.
"2. It seeks to suggest, rather
than exhaust, the associations
and applications with which our
tradition has in many instances
surrounded these Biblical selec-
tions .
"3. This course of study seeks
further to suggest the rich im-
plications for our time to be
found in Scripture . ."
Praised as Good Text
In his introduction to Robbi
Adler's book, Dr.• Israel M. Gold-
man, director of the National
Academy for Adult Jewish
Studies, states:

"The Academy takes great pleasure
In publishing this book, 'Great Pass-
ages form the Torah' by Rabbi Morris
Adler. A good . Bible 'text is always
timely and welcome but never more
so than now. There exists today the
most pressing urgency for bringing
the m•re+rtl— messages of the Bible to
the minds and hearts of our people.

their spiritual needs with supreme
completeness; it will prove an unfail-

cheer .•
"It Is hoped that the 'Great Pass-
ages' which Rabbi Adler has selected
together with the Comments and
Topics for Discussion which he has
so ably added will afford the modern
Jew such an increased knowledge of
the Bible that he will gain the faith
and the assurance to say with the

keep thy soul.' "

Silver Urges
Detroiters Aid
Zionist Cause

Jacobs Seeks New Members
As "Yes" Reply Backing
Case Before UN

Morris Jacobs, president of the
Zionist Organization of Detroit,
has received an earnest message
from Dr. Abba Hillel Silver,
president of the Zionist Organiza-
tion of America, which reads in
part:
"I had the great privilege of
presenting -the Zionist case to
the United. Nations. I sense every
favorable reaction to our cause
not only among delegateS but
throughout the nation. We are
now entering final stages when
we shall present our full case to
the -special committee appointed
by - the United Nations and in
the fall before the full Assem-
bly.
"It is of the utmost importance
that during the next critical de-
cisive months Zionist strength
should be at its maximum and
that every Jew interested in de-
fending the Jewish National
Home should enroll in the Zion-
ist Organization of America.
"You can render no more help-
ful service to our historic cause
than by enlisting immediately
the maximum number of Jews
in your community in the ZOA.
It will greatly strengthen my
hands and those who are charged
with the responsibility for the
proper championing of our case
before the world tribunal if Jews
in your community would in
overwhelming numbers enlist in
Zionist ranks. Please ask every
Jew.. in your community whether
I can speak in his name by en-
rolling in the ZOA. Write to me
personally."
Mr. Jacobs, upon receipt of this
wire, has issued a call to De-
troit Jews to write to Dr. Silver,
replying:
"Yes, you can speak in my
, name. I hereby enroll as a
member of the Zionist Organi-
zation of America and enclose
my check for $5."
These replies. Mr. Jacobs
states, can be • addressed to Dr.
