Named May Architect

New Bnai Brith Group to Seek
To Name Lodge After Henry Monsky

Archie Davidson, field direc-
tor of the Bnai Brith Anti-Defa-
tion League, will address a new
lodge being formed in the north-
west area, 8:30 p.m., Thursday,
at the Northwest Hebrew Con-
gregation, Santa Rosa and Curtis.
The new lodge, in applying
for its charter, will ask the priv-
ilege of naming the organization
after the late Henry Monsky.
The new group also will hear
Mrs. Charles D. Solovich, first
president of the Women's Greater
Detroit Council, and recently
elected nirional historian of the
Women's Supreme Council at
Washington, D. C.

The Halevy Singing Society,
through its president, Dr. William,
Klein, announces the establish-.
ment of the Max Lexy Memorial
Award in the form of an en-
graved plaque to be given an-
nually to the individual who, in
the opinion of a committee of
prominent Detroiters, has con-
tributed most to the advancement i
of Jewish music during the pre- 1
ceding year.
In establishing this award, the
Halevy is honoring the memory
of the late Max Levy, a charter
member and former president.
who died early in April. Levy, a
resident of Detroit since the early
1920's, was not only a music stu-
dent, singer and vocal coach, but .
also was known as a scholar,
linguist and teacher, having been :
at one time associated with the
United Hebrew Schools
In 1925, he participated in the
organization of the Halevy, the
first Jewish musical society in De- '
troit. He held the office of presi-
dent of Halevy in 1933, and has
been vocal coach and member of
the executive board since 1931.
The first Max Levy Award will
be presented at a dinner Tuesday
evening, May 27, at Bnai David
Synagogue. Invitations to the din-
ner and program are extended to
all patrons. members, and former
members of the Halevy. and to
all friends of the late Mr. Levy.
