Mrs. Solovich Elected
Historian of Supreme
Council, BB Women

WASHINGTON (JTA) — The
Supreme Council of Bnai Brith
Women concluded a three-day
annual meeting here after adopt-
ing decisions to increase assist-
ance to refugee children main-
tained in homes in London and
Palestine and to establish schol-
arships for young people wishing
to take courses in Jewish life in
Jewish schools.
It was revealed at the confer-
ence that, during 1946, Bnai Brith
Women contributed $625,000 in
assisting youth projects, defense
work, philanthropies and overseas
aid. Mrs. Abram Orlow of Phila-
delphia was elected national I
president.
Mrs. Charles D. Solovich of
Detroit was elected historian' ofi
the Supreme Council. She is the
first, Detroiter to hold the post.
She is past president of Pisgah
Chapter of the Michigan Council,
and of Women's District Grand
Lodge No. 6 of Bnai Brith.

For Persons Over 60,

Completes First Year

The Friendship Club at the 12th
St. Council Center is making
plans to celebrate its first anni-
versary.
This club. whose membership
is limited exclusively to persons
over the age of 60 years, was
formed last May by Mrs. Joseph
Geschelin, with the assistance of
Harold Weiss, director of the 12th
St. Council Center.
The group, now numbering
over 50, has enjoyed meetings,
entertainments, games, a picnic
and the celebration of holiday
festivals. Mrs. Sarah Rubin is
president and Roy Konop, secre-
tary.
Residents of the 12th St. area
who are over 60 are invited to
attend the weekly meetings at 1
p. in. Tuesdays at .8687 12th St.

Northwest University Chapter
of the Zionist organization of De-
troit will welcome new mem-
bers, Tuesday evening, May 20,
at the Bagley School, Curtis , at
Northlawn.
Seymour Tilchin, president of
the Chapter, announces that
after a short business meeting, a
report on current events regard-
ing Palestine, particularly in con-
nection with the United Nations,
will be given by George Weis-
wasser, followed by a question
and answer period on the various
phases of Zionism. Dr. Leonard
Sidlow will act as moderator.

Odessa Aid Marks
35th Anniversary

To celebrate the completion of
35 years of community service,
the Odessa Progressive Aid So-
ciety will hold a cultural pro-
gram, banquet and dance begin-
ning at 3 p. m. Sunday, May 4,
at the Fort Wayne Hotel.
Odessa members and represen-
tatives and fraternal and cultural
organizations will be present at
the program and dinner, while
children of members are invited
to the dance, which begins at
9 p. m.
