Benny Leonard, former light-
weight champion, one of the most

popular heroes of the ring, died
last Saturday while refereeing a
fight in St. Nicholas Arena,
Chicago.
Born in New York 51 years ago,
Benny was lightweight champion
for 11 years. He withdrew from

the ring in 1924.
