To my fellow Jews of Detroit:

Recognizing our role as the primary source of strength and hope for the

helpless and despairing among our people, the Jews of America are supporting,

through the United Jewish Appeal and related causes, a great program of relief,

rehabilitation and reconstruction:

To finance this vital work in Europe and Palestine and to maintain many of

our essential humanitarian and cultural services at home, the Allied Jewish

Campaign has embarked on a fund-raising effort to raise $5,335,000 as Detroit's

measure of T participation:
Our Allied Jewish Campaign is a united, welfare fund that embraces support

not only for the U. J. A. agencies — the Joint Distribution Committee, the United

Palestine Appeal and the United Services for New Americans — but also such

overseas organizations as the HIAS, the Hebrew University and the American

Fund for Palestinian Institutions; such national services in the United States as

the Jewish Welfare,Board, the Hillel Foundation, the American Jewish Committee,

American Jewish Congress, Jewish Labor Committee and Anti-Defamation League

, and, among other local institutions and services, the Jewish Home for Aged,

the United Hebrew Schools and other educational programs, as well as the

Jewish Community Council, the Jewish Vocational Service and the Resettlement

Service for refugees who come to Detroit:

No matter how generous your contribution was Oast year the need is greater

in 1947, and the goal is approximately -twice as much:

If you can give three, even five, ten times as much when you are called on,

we hope you will measure up to the immensity of the task and the grandeur of

the opportunity to live up to the destiny that history has assigned to all of us:

60°

Faithfully yours,

Fred M; Butzel

General Chairman

Give them Life . . . and make it worth Living!
