For Women's Day Program

Women's Day program to be pres-
ented by the Detroit Pioneer
Women's Council at 8:30 p.m.
Wednesday, April 23. at the Jew-
ish Community Center.
A leader in the PWO move-
ment for the past 12 Years, Miss
Rothbard represents the organiz-
ation at the World Zionist Con-
gress. In 1939 she visited Pales-
tine, where, for six months, she
studied the Palestine Working
Women's Council, sister organiz-
ation of the PWO.
She is a graduate of the Jewish
Teachers' Seminary in New York
and the Universary of California.
A member of Phi Beta Kappa,
she has been active in Jewish
educational circles for many
years.

Program This Week

Danny Cohen, adjutant of the
Downriver Post of the Jewish
War -Veterans, will be chairman
of the all-veteran goodwill pro-
gram to be held at 8 p. Tues-
day. April 22, at 41 Oak St.. River
R ,age.
The 1C)oNynver Post is sponsor-
ing the event, at which all. major
veterans organizations in Michi-
gan will be represented.
Earl Ganshaw, commander of
the American Legion: Arthur
Greg, commander of the Veterans
of Foreign Wars, and Dr. Perry
P. Burnstine, commander. Jewish
War Veterans, will participate in
a round table discussion.
Problems of interest to all
Michigan veterans will be ana-
lyzed.

JW V Readies Grounds
For Memorial Center

A 500 by 200 foot lot owned by
the Department of Michigan Jew-
ish War Veterans will be leveled
off Monday, April 27, in prepara-
t!on for a future memorial center
to be erected. An outdoor soft-
baseball, tennis court and
dance pavilion will be laid out
for spring and summer recreation-
al activities.

Assistance in filing out the forms,
as well as notary public service,
are available without charge.

Amounts To $285,446;
Quarterly Dividend Paid

NEW YORK-Net profit of the
Palestine Economic Corporation
in 1946 amounted to $286,446,

after Palestine, British and United

States taxes had been deducted,
according to Robert Szolcl, chair-
man of the board of directors.
Paid capital a n d surplus
amounted to $4,851,508 and there
were 19,701 shares of common
stock outstanding at the close of
the year. Quarterly dividends at
the rate of $4 per share per year
have been paid since May 15,
1946.
The corporation has announced

Marie Syrkin, American educa-
tor, author and lecturer, will be
the guest speaker at a city-wide
open meeting at 8:30 p. m. Thurs-
day evening, April 24, in the
Brown Memorial Chapel of Tem-
ple Beth El.
Miss Syrkin, who has just re-
turned after visiting Palestine
and studying the conditions of the
European Jews, is being brought
to Detroit by the Labor Zionist
Organization as the first speaker
iri the series of cultural and edu-
cational meetings planned by the
LZOA. Miss Syrkin's appearance
will serve to launch the expan-
sion and membership drive of the
Detroit LZOA, according to Mor-
ris Leiberman, chairman of the
Detroit Central Committee and
Mrs. Norman Leeman, chairman
of the membership committee.
Miss Syrkin, daughter of Dr.
Nachum Syrkin, pioneer Zionist
philosopher and writer, achieved
note in educational circles as the
author of the book, ''Your School
and Your Child." She is a leader
in the American Zionist Move-
ment and is a qualified observer
and interpreter of events in
