ing further illegal immigration.
(According to the JPS news
'service in a London dispatch,
B r i ti s h intelligence agents
throughout the continent have
been put on the alert and British
missions in all European coun-
tries from which Jews might set
out for Palestine have been in-
structed to post these govern-
ments on "suspicious" movements
by Jewish DPs and suspected
Haganah emissaries.
Collaborative Action
(Foreign Secretary- Bevin . has
written a personal letter on the
subject to French Foreign Secre-
tary Bidault, mid Alfred Duff-
Cooper, British Ambassador to
France, and Sir Noel H. Charles,
British Ambassador to Italy, have
been ordered to press both these
governments for collaborative ac-
tion against the Jewish exodus.
(Bidault has assured Britain
that France would take "all pos-
sible measures" pointing out,
however, the task was "very diffi-
cult" and "delicate" since many of
the Palestine-destined immigrants
are equipped with bona fide visas
for countries other than Palestine,
and the ships they travel in are
similarly equipped with clearance
papers for other countries. He
also pointed out this unauthorize d
immigration is too well organized
to permit detection.
(Earlier this week a spokes-
man for the War Department
in Washington said American
military authorities won't at-
tempt to cope with the situation
for lack of personnel, and for
political reasons, won't assign
it to German police.)

UN General Assembly
Issue Interim Decision

British Ask France and Italy
To Halt Embarkation of Jews
LONDON. (JTA).—British em-
bassies in Paris and Rome have
requested the French and Italian
governments to prevent the em-
barkation from their ports of

grants to Palestine. the Foreign
Office confirmed.
Last January representatives of
France, Britain and the United
States met in Paris to discuss
means of regulating immigration:
from Germany, but the agree-
ments reached there, if any, have
never'been disclosed.
(Queried as to the status of the
agreement drawn up at Paris, the
State Department said it is still
in draft form, and has not yet
been signed by any of the three
nations. A spokesman said the
draft had been approved in "lower
echelons." but may undergo some
changes before being signed. The
signing will occur within the next
30 days or sooner, he added.)

Polish Government Halts
Emigration Under Pressure
WARSAW. (JTA)—The Polish
Security Ministry informed a
conference of leaders of the Jew-
ish Central Committee and heads
of Jewish political parties that
further illegal emigration will be
halted. The move is believed to
have followed renewed British
pressure on the government.
The conference was told that
Jewish leaders, particularly Zion"-
ists, would be held responsible
for further illegal emigration.
Frontier guards will be strength-
ened to implement the policy.

Bill Preserves Residence
Of Aliens in Armies

(Specia3 Wire to the Jewish News)

NEW YORK, (JTA)—The Jewish Agency on Tuesday
urged the United Nations General Assembly to issue an
interim decision at its forthcoming special session permitting
large scale immigration to Palestine immediately.
Stating that further delay may mean catastrope for Jews
who have waited for two years since liberation to enter Pal-
estine, the Agency said that the interim order is "dictated by
every consideration of humanity -and international law." The
statement added that such action would serve as a test of the
significance of the forthcoming session and would Make clear
that no power can manipulate the General Assembly for
purpose of "dilatory maneuver, accepting or rejecting its
findings as it pleases."
