Czech Film Criticized
For Anti-Semitic Trend

PRAGUE, (JTA)—Jewish and
non-Jewish officials are object-
ing strongly to the new Czech
film, "Nikola Shubay," now be-
ing exhibited, because they fear
it will encourage anti-Semitism.
One of a group of Jewish char-
acters in the movie is portrayed
as a traitor to his country, and
while several other Jewish char-
acters are sympathetically por-
trayed, it is feared that the "man
in the street" will be influenced
only by the evil character. The
government has promised that
the film will not be shown in
Slovakia, where there have been
anti-Semitic disturbances.
