Aids Ragged Jews
Fleeing Russia

A report to the New York
Times from Vienna on Sunday
stated that 350 Jews who arrived
from Russia gave "startling veri-
fication of reports of the fate of
many Jews who fled from Hit-
ler to Russia." The report states:
"The 350 were in a shocking
condition. Their clothes were
rags. They were half starved.
Members of the group said they
had been on the way from a Rus-
sian work camp at Kazakistan in
Central -Asia for nearly three
months.
`'They said they had so little
food on their trip that they would
have starved if the Joint Distri-
bution Committee in Romania
had not learned of their plight
and provided food.
"When they arrived they were
in such a weakened condition that
other Jewish refugees in the
Rothschild Hospital refugee cen-
ter gave up their dinner so the
newcomers could eat."
