Pechner today is recognized as
the world's best "Beckmesser" in
"Die Meistersinger" and has re-
cently been soloist under the di-
rection of such distinguished con-
ductors as Bruno Walter, Leopold
Stokowski and Sir Thomas Bee-
eham.
For his Detroit recital, Pechner
has selected arias from Rossini's
"Barber of Seville," Mozart's
"Marriage of . Figaro," and clas-
sical and Viennese songs. Matilda
Garvett Kesler, Detroit pianist,
will be the accompanist for Pech-
ner.
Pechner is also a distinguished
pianist and a special feature of
his recitals is the fact that he
plays his own piano accompani-
ments for his encores.

Bar Association vote cast by Detroit Lawyers
for Circuit Judge prior to the Primaries, Wil-
liam Friedman had the distinction of receiv-
ing a percentage of 96.5.
JWB Women Plan Hospitality
For Jewish GIs on Passover
Plans to provide hospitality in
Detroit homes for Jewiskservice-
men during Passover are being
made by the Detroit Army and
Navy . Committee, of which
Samuel Rubiner is chairman.
The plans are being formulated
by the Women's Division of the
Jewish Welfare Board, under the
chairmanship of Mrs. Maurice
Landau.

charge of this and other service-
men's programs is Mrs. Carolyn
Berendt. It is urged thA all who
desire to offer hospitality for
servicemen or to assist in other

Berendt at MA. 8400, the office
of the Jewish Center.
A group of patients from Percy
Jones Hospital will be in the
Shubert-Lafayette Theater audi-
ence to see "Dear Ruth," Monday
evening, March 31 because of the
efforts of -Detroit men and women
who are interested in the activi-
ties of the Jewish Center Com-
mittee f Military Hospital
Needs. Dinner will be served by
the women of the Jewish National
Fund at the USO. The next morn-
ing the members of the Alpha
Epsilon Phi alumni group will
prepare their breakfast.
One party is arranged each
month for 37 patients, according
to Mrs. Landau. Also individual-
ized services such as weekend
plans, gift requests and home
hospitality are provided as often
as possible.
Through the generosity of thea-
ters such as the Shubert-Lafay-
ette, Cass, Fox and Music Hall,
varied weekends are made pos-
sible for wounded men and
women able to come in to Detroit.

William Friedman has character—the first
requisite of a good judge. As Circuit Court
Judge, he provided unimpeachable evidence,
attested to by his colleagues on the Bench
and in the law professon, that he has true ju-
