Melodies, Makes Flower Show History

Flower Exhibit
The lighter side of the art of Detroit contributor. To enroll as
soliciting for the Allied Jewish
Campaign will be presented at
the College of Campaign Knowl-
edge, sponsored by the Women's
Division at 12:30 p. m. next Wed-
nesday, in the Jewish Center.
Beginning with a luncheon
the afternoon's events are plan-
ned to instruct workers in tech-
niques of soliciting funds and to
answer their questions about the
campaign.
Jewish Day at the Flower Show
provided genuine thrills for the
hundreds of Jewish visitors.

provided on the organ by Jason
Tick ton, assistant professor of
music at Wayne University and
organist of Temple Beth El, re-
sounded throughout. the great
area of Convention Hall.
"Anu Banu Artza," "Dayenu,"
'Boker Ba, - and scores of other
tunes, brilliantly interpreted at
the console by Mr. Tickton, gave
tone to the historic occasion of
the inclusion of a Palestine Gar-
den in a great flower show.
Admire Palestine Garden
Tens of thousands of non-Jews
stopped at the Palestine Garden
to admire the display of murals
and flowers, and thousands saw
the sound film, "A Day in
Dagania," which was shown sev-
eral times on Monday night.
Maurice Samuel is the narrator
in this film.
The Palestine Garden and the
program for Jewish Day were
arranged under the supervision
of the Jewish National Fund
Council of Detroit, with Alex
Schreier as chat.kwan.
Louis Redstone was consulting
architect in charge of arranging
the garden. Hrand Hampikian
was the supervising architect for
the entire flower show, including
the Palestine Garden.

First class in the college will
have as its instructor, Abe Sud-
ran, associate director of the
Jewish Welfare Federation, who
will lead an information quiz.
Prepared by Mrs. Alexander W.
Sanders, and Mrs. Philip R. Mar-
cuse. the quiz is intended to
answer questions about t h e
"why, when, where, and how"
of campaign soliciting.
A skit entitled "There's Many
a Slip," dealing with the trials
and tribulations, as well as
triumphs, of a campaign solicitor
and written in the current,
psychological comedy vogue will
be the second class period.
Has Cast of 12
Conceived and written by Mrs.
Leonard T. Lewis, assisted by
Julian Zemon, and directed by
Mrs. Richard Freund, the play-
let has a cast of 12, including
Mrs. Harold Allen, Mrs. Arnold
Brodie, Mrs. Sally L. Brown, Mrs.
Martin Butzel, Mrs. Milton Don-
er, Mrs. Stanley Fleishaker, Mrs.
Jerome Frank, Mrs. Arthur Rice,
Mrs. Marjorie Rosenthal, Mrs.
Nate Schlager, Mrs. Myron
Stein and Mrs. James Wineman.
Announcing the program, Mrs.-
Maurice A. Landau, stressed it
was designed to provide cam-
paign workers with information
so the "Women's Division will
have a large corps of enthusias-
tic, well-trained solicitors."
Largest Drive Ever
This year, the Allied Jewish
Campaign is conducting the lar-
gest drive ever undertaken in
Detroit in an effort to raise $5,-
335,000 for overseas, national
and local needs.

goal, volunteer workers are
urgently needed to reach every

At Woman's Day Fete
June Gordon, national presi-
dent of the Emma Lazarus Divi-
sion will be the pricipal speaker
at the International Woman's Day
celebration, at 2 p. rn. Saturday,
March 22, at the Jewish Cultural
Center, 2705 Joy Rd. The cele-
bration is sponsored by the Jew-
ish Reading Circle of the Jewish
Peoples Fraternal Order.
A musical program will be
rendered and refreshments
served. Everybody is invited.
ORT Training Courses
Get French Recognition
Paris (JTA)—The French Labor
Ministry has agreed to recognize
certificates awarded by the ORT
to displaced 'Jews at the com-
pletion of accelerated apprentice
training courses. The government
will advance 6,000 francs each
month to trainees during their
three or six month apprentice-
ships, after which they will find
work in French industry.

In Settling Survivors in Australia
Detroit branch of United Lo-
vitcher Relief Society has been
instrumental in providing assist-
ance for the settlement of 100
Lovitcher survivors from Nazi-
ism in Australia, it was revealed
here this week.
Philip Segal of Los Angeles,
a brother of Louis Segal of New
York, national secretary of Jew-
ish National Workers Alliance,
on a visit in Detroit as one of the
voluner
te leaders in this move-
ment, S tated that United Lovitch-
er Society, besides having rep-
resentatives and a branch in
Australia, has chapters in De-
troit, New York, Chicago and
Los Angeles.
Mr. Segal said negotiations
were carried on with the Aus-
tralian government for the set-

nounce the temporary suspen-
