Book Council Award

novel, "As A Driven Loaf' has
been selected as the Jewish book
of the month for March.
The Jewish Book Council of
Philadelphia unanimously decid-
ed to extend the Book Month
idea, now generally observed by
Jewish communities throughout
the country, to a month-to-
month, year-round program.

Semi-Classic Program
Five thousand strong, the Red
Cross Army is marching this
month in its 1947 Fund Cam-
paign, seeking $1,334,400 to carry
on its program for the men and
women still in the armed forces,
for the veterans, able and hos-
pitalized, and on the home front.
The Red Cross flag is flying
over Detroit's City Hall for the
whole month of March and the
same emblems are atop the
County Building and at all pub-
lic and parochial junior high and
high schools of the county, re-
minding Detroiters that NOW is
the time to give to this great or-
ganization.

The bride chose for her wed-
ding a gown of white silk import-
ed Chantilly lace styled with a
sweetheart neckline and a shirred
waist on the skirt which fell in a
long train. The fingertip veil was
secured by a headdress of cry-
stalized pearls and she carried a
white orchid centered on a Bible.
Irene Siegel was her sister's
junior bridesmaid and Mrs. Mur-
ray Adler of New York, aunt of
the bride, was matron of honor.
The bridesmaids were Annette
Korman, Esther Freed, Bernice
Silverman, Claire Bell and Mrs.
Marvin Nelkin.
Ben Aller of Chicago was best
man, and the ushers were David
Matz, Sorrell Coven, Steven Vic-
tor, Irving Simons and Marvin
Nelkin.
After the ceremony the bridal
party received their guests in the
Normandy room and then in the
Crystal ballroom. The newlyweds
are honeymooning in New York.
