the winter in Los Angeles.
Mrs. Louis M. Dunn of Hazelwood Ave. left for a vacation in
Miami.
Sheldon Krause, who recently returned from 15 months service
in, the armed forces, is now attending the University of Michigan.

Jerry Krause, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Krause of Calvert
Ave., has returned to his dental studies in Ann Arbor after spending

Miss Evelyn Miller was given a farewell party by her sister,
Mrs. Pauline Schiff, last week. She will spend two weeks in Chicago
with her sister, Mrs. Ruth Fishman. and her brother, David L.
Miller, and on Feb. 23 will leave for Los Angeles where she will
make her home.
Miss Paula Tyner of Warrington Dr. was hostess at a luncheon
Feb. 15 at the Book-Cadillac Hotel in honor of Miss Arlene Gendel-
man, bride-elect.
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Schlussel and daughter, Mrs. 0. I. Baker,
pre spending a month in Florida.
Steven Alan Prussian has returned to his home after being
the weekend guest of his grandparents. Mr. and Mrs. Morris
L6eb of Glynn Ct.
Dr. and Mrs. Maxwell M. Hoffman have returned from a five-
week stay in Mexico.
Dr. and Mrs. Albert E. Bernstein of 2400 W. Boston Blvd. are
leaving for a week's vacation.
Mr. and Mrs. Al E. West of Pennington Dr. have returned from
New York.
Mr. and Mrs. Myron Schefman (Theda Bankle) have returned
from their honeymoon in Miami Beach and are residing at the
Wilshire.
Mrs. Morris Henden entertained 15 children Feb. 15 in honor
of her son. Arnold, who celebrated his seventh birthday Feb. 12.
Mrs. David B. Werbe and Mrs. Frederick C. Ford arranged an
exhibition of paintings for the annual dinner meeting of the De-
troit International Institute. The paintings remained on exhibit
for a week.
Mr. and Mrs. A. Aubrey Jacob of Boston Blvd. left for an
extended air trip to Mexico. Central and South America. Enroute
they will visit their sister, Mrs. Herbert Sobel of Chicago, at her
winter home in Guatemala City.
Mr. and Mrs. Herbert H. Warner have left on a trip through
Georgia and Florida. While in Miami they will be guests at the
Sea Isle Hotel.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Clark of Parkside Ave. entertained 80
guests at a supper party in honor of their parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Joseph Kaplan; who left for Tucson, Ariz., where they will make
their home.
Irwin Ratner, Scoutmaster of Troop 135, was honored with the
Silver Beaver Award at the annual Scout Council banquet at the
Wardell-Sheraton Hotel, Feb. 13. In his party were Mrs. Ratner,
their daughter, Ilene. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Ravitz and son. Seymour.
Mr. and Mrs. David Liebow, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wa•sh and Mr.

Ratner Gets Top Award
For Service to Scouting;
Friedman, Brown Elected

Irwin Ratner, of 12024 N. Mar-
tindale, scoutmaster of Troop
135, was one of 12 Detroit citi-
zens to receive the Silver Beav-
er Award, one of the highest in
Scouting, at the 37th annual
meeting of the Detroit Area
Council, Boy Scouts of America,
Feb. 13.
Ratner's citation read: "Busi-
nessman, participating citizen,
this Scouter is active in many
youth activities of his church.
He has given splendid leadership
to a troop for nearly 10 years.
His troop practices a genuine pa-
trol method, giving scouts a real
opportunity to develop initiative.
"A believer in training himself,
he acquired the Scoutmaster's
Key in 1945. His troop is given
credit for orig;nating the custom
of presenting flowers on Moth-
er's Day to the mothers of Scouts
in the armed services."
-Ratner's troop is sponsored by
the Men's Club of Bnai David.
At the Area Council meeting,
Prentiss M. Brown was elected
president of - the Council, and
William Friedman was elected
to the Executive Board.
