Rabbi Rubin Describes Experiences
In Helping Solve Personal Problems
Rabbi Samuel A. Rubin's "Path
of Life," just published by Bloch
Publishing Co., 31 W. 31st St.,
New York, is based on experi-
ences gathered as advisor to par-
ents and children, hilsbands and
wives, people involved in busi-
ness differences.
As presiding judge of the Jew-
ish-American Board of Peace and
Justice, he has had occasion to
hear squabbles and disputes, and
his good common sense is incor-
porated .M his book of brief es-
says.
At a public hearing Jan. 30,
before a joint session of the
Senate Labor Committee and the
House Judiciary Committee a
brief for a Fair Employment Bill
for Michigan was presented.
Among the organizations rep-
resented by advocates for the
measure were Michigan Catholic
Welfare Conference, Michigan
Federation of Teachers, Detroit
Jewish Community Council,
Michigan Council for Fair Em-
ployment Legislation, City of De-
troit Interracial Committee,
Newspaper Guild, Michigan
Farmers Union, and the League
of Women Voters.
Either legislative committee
may now report the bill out—in
which case it will be acted upon Camera Service & Supplies
by the legislature—or not report

BUSINESS DIRECTORY
During their recent European
tour, Mr. and Mrs. Julius Chaj-
es (Marguerite Kozenn) - made
numerous radio and concert ap-
pearances. They consider the
concert they gave at the OSE
Orphan Home in Paris one of
the most important in their over-
seas itinerary.
The accompanying photograph
which arrived this week from
Paris with an - expression of
thanks, shows i hlr. and Mrs.
Chajes with a group of OSE or-
phans. Mr. Chajes, eminent pia-
nist and director of music at the
Jewish Community Center, is at
the extreme right. Mrs. Chajes,
sedted, is shown receiving flow-
ers from the orphans.
Mr. Chajes this week received
a letter written by a 16-year-old
girl from Cyprus to another Rom-
anian youngster, whose parents
cared for her, describing the
plight of those ,- escaping from
Europe and seeking admission
to Palestine.
The letter describes how the
young girl traveled for four ,
weeks on one of the Overcrowd-
ed boats on the way to , Pales-
tine. There were 4,000 European
survivors on two boats which
reached Haifa b simultaneously.
The letter states:
"After a battle which lasted
two hours, in which the British
used suffocating gas to prevent
our landing, we were forced in-
to boats. We traveled for five
more days and were brought to
Cyprus. From Eretz Israel we
received for Hanukah parcels
containing raisins, almonds acid
figs. I wish I could send it to
Romania! I am terribly lonesome
for your parents who took care
of me for four years. I am so
frightfully alone! There are 10,-
000 of our people here. After
four to six months, we hope to
go to Eretz."
The girl asks her Romanian
friend to write to the Chajes'
and to ask them to help locate
a sister of her late father in
California. The name and address
as she remembers it are: Lonius
Lifschitz, Avenue Brukian, El-
sinora, Calif.

HIAS Brings "Angel of
Belsen" to This Country
WASHINGTON (JPS)—A pro-
posal by the International Refu-
gee Organization to resettle a
considerable number of Euro-
pean refugees in Alaska has the
endorsement of the Department
of Interior, which administers the
territory, but is meeting stiff op-
position from Alaska's delegate
on the IRO, E. L. Bartlett, who
terms the scheme "fantastic." The
plan originated with the Depart-
ment of Interior when Harold E.
Ickes headed the department.
Paul. Healy, New York Daily
News' Washington correspond-
ent, says the Interior Depart-
ment's endorsement of the Alas-
ka plan is construed in admin-
istration circles to mean Presi-
dent Truman has little hope of
success for his oft repeated ef-
forts to get Congress to institute
special legislation for the admis-
sion of displaced persons.

legislation which would permit
400,000 European DPs to enter
the U. S. during the next four
years.
