Relatives Abroad in 1946
NEW YORK—A l m o s t 20,000
relatives in Europe were found in
1946 by the Location Service of
the American Jewish Congress,
according to the annual report of
the service.
One out of every three in-
quiries received during the year
was successfully closed, the re-
port states. The Location Service
received 64,000 inquiries during
the year and succeeded in tracing
19,815 persons abroad. In addi-
tion, 15,000 persons visited the
offices of the Location Service at
50 West 68th Street to examine
its carefully compiled lists of sur-
viving Jews in Europe.
This index contains over 400,-
000 names of Jews liberated by
the Allied Armies and is one of
the largest of its kind.
