that "I shall probably get into
trouble for saying this, but I be-
lieve it is more important for
the U. S. and Britain to get along
well than for a new state to be
established for the Jews."
He justified Britain's police
regime in Palestine by stating

British Consul Attacks Truman
And Jews on Palestine Issue
LOS ANGELES, (JTA)—Brit-
ish Consul General Eric Carvell
attacked President Truman, the
U. S. government, the two major
political parties in the U. S. and
American Jewry for supporting

the demand for the admission of
100,000 displaced Jews to Pales-
tine, in a recent address here.
The attacks was made at a
gathering in the Greyfriars Me-
morial church. The Los Angeles

Zionist Emergency Committee
released an eye-witness report
by the Rev. Harold H. Robertson
in which the British consul gen-
eral is quoted as stating:
"The Jews
have plenty of
money and they have ben using
it in this country and the result
is pressure has been brought to
bear on this government and the
President. The suggestion 100,-
000 be admitted to Palestine is
ridiculous and the British are not

going to admit them."

JACOB BEN-AMI AND SIDNEY
LUMET IN "A FLAG IS BORN"
linty-wide interest is being
shown in the coming to Detroit,
on , Monday, at the Lafayette
Theater, of Ben Hecht's "A Flag
Is Born."
Ben Hecht, whose name first
made headlines in the theatrical
news as a lampoonist of the jazz
era, has, of late years, turned his
talents as a playwright to
espousing great causes.
His latest work, "A Flag Is
Born," is an electrifying and
passionate plea for the rebirth of
a nation, stated in colorful and
intensely dramatic theatrical lan-
guage.
Hecht planned "A Flag Is
Born" originally for a single per-
formance at a Madison Square
Garden rally. But as the play
grew in depth and color on the
writer's typewriter, it was de-
cided to make a try for a run in
a Broadway theater. To date it
has played to crowded houses for
10 weeks. Jacob Ben-Ami is the

star and the company includes
Celia Adler and Sidney Lumot,
and a cast of 100.
