MELVIN TICHDC, 6-year-old
prodigy of the downbeat, whose
tiny hands just about whip the
drums to a frazzel, took the play
away from Gene Krupa, recently,
by sitting in with the master of
the skins and holding the spot-
light for 10 minutes .. . The son
of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Tichik
of 1601 Taylor, Melvin even had
Krupa biting his gums in rhythm
and grinning from ear to ear .. .
He's been hitting everything in
sight since he was 2 years old,
practically being raised on Krupa
. . . and now, since being with
the maestro, Mr. and Mrs. Tichik
can't get him away from the
drums! ... His school is planning
a jazz concert for him . . . and
he'll put on a show for the Faygo
annual banqueteers, Jan. 18, at
