VerifyPresident's Figures
Showing Small Inunigiation

Dr. Leland R. Robinson Shows Shipping Tallies to Prove That
Only Small Portion of Quota Is Used; Report -
Deplorable Conditions at Embarkation Points

.
NEW YORK, (JTA)—President Truman's figures show-
ing that, only 4,767 qualified refugees and displaced persons
entered the United States up to Oct. 21, instead of the 39,000
who could have entered legally in the 10-month period fol-
lowing issuance of the President's immigration directive a
year ago, have been confirmed.

The unidentified shipping au-;
thorities who challenged the
President's figures were charged
with gross inaccuracy by Dr. Le-
land Rex Robinson, chairman of Declares Zionist Congress

Dr. Robinson revealed. Visas of
200 persons expired before they
could• sail, and thousands with
documents entitling them to ad-
mission to this country under the
quota have fallen into a state
"bordering on desperation," he
charged.
One reason for the failure to
achieve the goal of the Presi-
dent's directive, aside from the
shipping bottleneck, Dr. Robin-
son said, was the lack of ade-
quate staffs in American con-
sular offices in the occupied
zones.
Dr. Robinson published a ship
by ship analysis of the immigra-
tion of refugees and displaced
persons from the American oc-
cupied zones showing the ac-
curacy of the President's figures.

Polish Government Slate
Includes 2 Jewish Men

WARSAW, (JTA) — Jewish
groups in Poland will not have
their own slates in the forthcom-
ing parliamentary elections
which are scheduled to take place
Jan. 19. Instead, two Jewish can-
didates have been included on
the general list of the govern-
ment bloc, which represents four
pro-government parties.
The Jewish candidates are Dr.
M. Shuldenfrei, chairman of the
central committee of the Jewish
Socialist Bund. and Prof. I. Sack,
leader of the right wing of the
Zionist Laborite Party and vice-
chairman of the Central Commit-
tee of Polish Jews.

a "terrorist" is doing him rank
injustice. He favors "resistance,"
which the Haganah similarly ad-
vacates and which even Abba Hil-
lel Silver subscribes to in his ag-
gressive militant tone.
It is futile to engage with dulcet
and submissive ways to the de-
tractors of Zionism, detractors
who repudiate the principles of
the Mandate and the Balfour
Declaration.
Sincerely,
DR. NOAH E. ARONSTAM

JOLIKriE, Canada—The story
Dr. Alexander H. Pekelis of the
faculty of Columbia University, of a Bordeaux Jew, Abraham
member of the research staff of Gradis, who probably tried to do
the World Jewish Congress, was more to keep Canada in the
French Empire than anyone at
the court of Versailles is told at
some length by a French-Canad-
ian historian, Adrien Robitaille,
in the theological and philosophi-
cal quarterly, Les Carnets Via-
torians, published here by the
Clerks of the Order of St. Vioteur.
The publication of this article,
which is most warm in tone to-
wards the Jews, is considered en-
couraging by the Jewish commun-
ity of Canada. The current issue
of the influential Jesuit French-
language monthly, Relations, con-
tains a strong statement of the
Zionist's position from the pen of
Harry Batshaw, K.C., thairman
of the Zionist Public Relations
Committee in eastern Canada.
This is believed to be the first
DR. ALEJANDER H. PEHELLS
time that this magazine has had
a contributor who represents the
Jewish community. In the past,
Relations had published anti-
Zionist articles, written by its
Cairo correspondent.
Observers also note that the
Quebec City magazine digest, Le
Recueil, recently published a
refutation of the Protocols of the
Elders of Zion under the heading
"A Document Which Has Been
Proven a Forgery." Le Recueil
carried this refutation at the very
time that the Social Credit organ,
Versdemain. was serializing the
Proctocols.

worthy of comment is the hand-
