Ben Gurion, Dr. Silver, Shertok,
Sneh to Direct World Zionists
Urges Jews
Ban Sunday
Schools
NEW YORK, (JTA) — Dr.
Israel M. Goldman, president
of the Rabbinical Assembly of
America, national organization
of the Conservative rabbinate,
proposed that
Conserva-
tive Jews abol-
ish Sunday
school training
w h i n five
years in order
to strengthen
new types of
Jewish educa-
tion.
Speaking at
Dr. Goldman
the Rabbinical Assembly Con-
ference on Jewish Education
at the Jewish Theological
Seminary of America, Dr.
Goldman declared:
"The Sunday school mis-
leads., both J'eVilarrhildresk
and Jewish parents into be-
lieving that a Jewish edu-
cation is being imparted,
when as a matter of fact it
does nothing of the kind.
"We will have to uproot many
other useless and injurious
growths, and in their place
plant more fruitful and more
productive Jewish educational
Instruments."
Emphasizing that "the major
preoccupation of American Jews
in this hour is with philanthropy."
Dr. Goldman said:
"While we:- the rabbis, glory in
the fact that our people are
exemplifying this noble virtue
we must issue the warning that
philanthropy is not enough. There
are many Jews who are eating
up their spiritual acid psychic
capital. who will find that in the
crises of this age, they will just
not be able to survive as inte-
grated personalities without some
new deposits of ethical values and
spiritual aspirations. This can
only be achieved through pro-
grams of Jewish education on all
levels—adult, youth and child."

DR. SILVER
BASLE, Switzerland. — Five full days of negotiations, conduct-
ed by 77 leaders of all Zionist parties upon the conclusion of the
22nd World Zionist Congress, resulted in the re-election of David
Ben Gurion of Jerusalem as chairman of the-World Zionist Execu-
tive, with headquarters in Jerusalem. The new Executive will be
composed of 19 members representing leaders of all Zionist parties.
The results of the Congress sessions, which lasted 16 days, and
the additional five days of negotiations are an absolute triumph for
Dr. Abba Hillel Silver, president of the Zionist Organization of
America, and the ZOA delegation to the Congress. Dr. Chaim
Weizmann, veteran leader of the movement, has been eliminated
story has just reached the national
Biblical Inspiration: A
office of the Mizrachi Women's Or-
ganization of America in New York City, of how the biblical sur-
roundings of Jerusalem apparently - influence even the above
very non-biblical game. The story comes from a children's home
for Yemenite orphans supported by the Mizrachi Women's Or-
ganization of America. The children were playing football on a
field in the Old City of Jerusalem. One of the boys missed a kick
because the sun got in his eyes. The boy looked up at the sky in
exasperation and exclaimed: "Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon!"
(Joshua; Chapter 10, verse 12).

from the Executive, but may be recalled to some position of
leadership.
Dr. Emanuel Neumann, vice-president of the ZOA who,
together with Dr. Silver, conducted the fight in behalf of the
American delegation against continued talks with the British
government unless the White Paper is scrapped, was chosen
a member of the Executive.
Dr. Silver's election to the chairmanship of the Executive
for the United States is a direct rebuff for Dr. Nahum Gold-
mann who has been removed from the
American scene. Dr. Goldrnann, together
with Berl Locker, laborite, henceforth
will be in charge of Zionist political affairs
in London. Dr. Silver's associate in the
U. S. will be Moshe Shertok.
Dr. Moshe Sneh and Goldie Meyerson
will be in charge of political affairs in
Palestine.
Upon conclusion of negotiations by
Zionist leaders at the extraordinary ses-
sions after the Congress it became certain
SHERTOK
that the Jewish Agency will not partici-
pate in the London conference as long as
existing conditions, under which bans are
enforced on Jewish immigration and land
sales, are maintained.
The major decisions of the Congress
were:
Confirmation of the Biltmore Platform
for the establishment of the Jewish Com-
monwealth; condemnation of the White
Paper and all its restrictive measures;
strong protests against deportation of
Jews to Eritrean camps and demands for
their return to Palestine for trial or re-
lease; condemnation of the activities of
the Bergson group in the U. S. and of
MOSHE SNEH
terrorism in Palestine; privileges to Re-
visionists to be withdrawn if the New Zionist Organization is
not dissolved in three months; continued explorations of pos-
sibilities of Arab-Jewish cooperation; instruction to Keren
Hayesod and Jewish National Fund offices throughout the
world that no funds are to be allotted to other organizations
without approval of Jerusalem headquarters.
