On board the refugee ship
were representatives of seven-
teen different Zionist parties,
the largest being orthodox. But
133 persons had no party affil-
iations at all. One group of
eighty-two advocated a hi-na-
tionalist Arab-Jewish Palestine
rather than a Jewish state, but
all, from the most venerable to
one unforgettable little boy,
had one thing in common—
Palestine! For them the alter-
native was death.
The epilogue of this book is
grater than all that goes be-
fore, and the concluding sen-
tence is a torch on high. "If
those ships were illegal, so was

the Boston tea party."

scenes is coupled with an icono-

and writings have been acknowl-

he enjoys the enviable reputation

U. S. Court Learns
Of Nazis' Sterilization
Program for Jews

NUREMBERG, (JTA)—A
French Jewish doctor, Robert
Levy, who was compelled by the
Nazis to work in the hospital
wards at the Oswiecim death
camp told the U. S. military
tribunal trying 23 Nazi doctors of
the effects on thousands of Jews
of experiments carried out there.
Another witness declared that
the Nazis sterilized as many of
1.000 Jewish women a day during
1943. Sterilization resulted from
injections of an irritating solution
during routine gynecological ex-
aminations without the victims
being aware of it.
Dr. Levy was in charge of a
Jewish ward where the major
portion of the cases were men
and women who had been steril-
ized and badly burned by X-rays:
Most of the burn cases developed
into cancer, Levy said, adding
that all the sterilized patients
eventually b e c a m e physical
wrecks. He said that German doc-
tors made periodic checks of his
ward, sending thin and weak pa-
tients to the gas chamber.
The prosecution
intro-
also
duced evidence proving that
sterilization experiments were

part of a premeditated plan to
wipe out the Jewish people.
Other witnesses testified that
Jewish prisoners were used in
'fatal experinients including high
altitude tests, malaria research
and the effect of drinking sea
water.
