Two hundred and fifty delegates representing more than

50 Landsmanshaften organizations pledged full support to the

Joint Distribution. Committee and the Allied Jewish Cam-
paign in 1947 at a JDC-Landsmanshaften conference held

Sunday at the Jewish Center.
Norman Gilmofsky, director of the Landsmanshaften

division of the United Jewish Appeal, which has set a national
goal of $170,000,000, who recently returned from a tour of
Europe • and Palestine, was principal speaker. He brought
greetings from the Jewish community of Poland and from the
,DP camps of Germany, Austria and Italy, and urged dele-
gates to aid in the reconstruction of the hospitals, orphanages,
synagogues, homes for the aged, and other institutions in their
home „lands.

Also representing the Federation was Alex Belkin, mem-
ber of the board of governors of the Jewish Welfare Federation
from the United Jewish Folks' organization.
-Concluding speaker was Harry Kaminer, chairman of the
executive committee of the United Jewish Folks' Organiza-
tions, who urged the delegates to prepare for unprecedented
support of the Allied Jewish Campagn and to help raise
Detroit's share in the national United Jewish Appeal drive

for $170,000,000.
An appeal on behalf of the JDC-sponsored SOS emerg-
ency collection was delivered by Theodore Leibowitz, member
of the board of the Junior Service Group.
Chairman of the meeting was Rabbi Eliezer Levi of Con-
gregation Bnai Moshe.

New Chapter in
Northwest Area

Morris M. Jacobs, president of
the Zibnist Organization of De-
troit, announces the Detroit dis-
trict is proceeding with placks for
its decentralization program, and
that the northwest chapter now
is in process of organization.
At a meeting of the provisional
committee, under the chairman-
ship of Seymour Tilchin, prelim-
inary arrangements were made
for the functioning of3. a group
covering the Six and Seven Mile
Rd. section. The name of the
chapter will be North-West Uni-
versity Chapter. Persons living
in that area alle eligible for mem-
bership.
The first meeting will be held
in January and the subject for
discussion will be "The Palestine
Mandate and Its Significance to
the Jewish People." Plans will
be made for the implemation of
this group. Refreshments will
be served after the meeting.
The purpose of the decentrali-
zation program is to provide for
more extensive participation and
activity and the bringing about
of • a closer relationship among
members residing in the same
neighborhood.
