State Council Formed
To Coordinate Drive
For FEPC Legislation

A Michigan Council to coordin-
ate the state-wide drive for a
Fair Employment Practice Com-
mission was formed upon pres-
entation of initiatory petitions
with 175,000 signatures to county
on
clerks throughout the state
Monday.
The Jewish Community Coun-
cil of Detroit is one of the spon-
soring agencies.
Among the leaders who are
active in behalf of the movement
for a state FEPC are: Aaron
Droock, president of the _ewish
Community Council; Dr. B. Bene-
dict Glazer, rabbi of Temple Beth
El; Julius A. Amberg of Grand
Rapids, former counsel to the
Secretary of War; Mayor Edward
Jeffries and others.

United States support of the
continued allocation of rebel
supplies on an international basis
as essential to the cause of world
cooperation was urged upon the
State Department today by Mrs.
Joseph M. Welt, of Detroit, pres-
ident of the National Council of
Jewish Women.
Mrs. Welt, in a telegram to
Under Secretary of State Dean
Acheson, took issue with Mr-
Acheson's recent statement of
administration policy in which
he favored allocation of relief by
individual nations, following the
dissolution of UNRRA. Her tele-
gram reads in part: '
"Support of international allo-
cation of relief by no means im-
plies the sanction of supplies to
nations that profess need while
maintaining large, unproductive
armies.' It does, however, pre-
clude food from becoming
a
political weapon—with each na-
tion sending supplies to those
countries whose governments it
supports."
