ACTIVITIES IN SOCIETY

Norman R. Schakne, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Schakne, of
Euclid Ave., has returned from Italy where he was stationed with the
U. S. Army of Occupation.
Gertrude Strauss, president of Junior Hadassah, and Jean Quidd
and Ruth Prujansky, membership and program chairmen, respec-
tively, of the Russell Woods Group, attended the 23rd National con-
vention of Junior Hadassah in Atlantic City over the Thanksgiving
week-end. They reported on the convention at the meetings held
last Sunday.
Mrs. Henry Derman of Great Neck, Long Island, N. Y., is being
entertained for a week by Mr. and Mrs. D. Berg of Greenlawn Ave.
A luncheon will be given in her honor at the Stat.ler Terrace Room
on Friday, Dec. 13.
Mr. and Mrs. M. Gihsburg of Traverse City spent the Thanks-
giving weekend in Kalamazoo as the guests of their son-in-law and
daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Monroe Price. Their son, Milford Ginsbterg,
a pre-medical student at the University of Michigan, was also there
for the holiday.
Miss Mildred Backalar was feted at a bridal shower given by
her grandmother, Mrs. A. Backalar, Dec. 3, at Zack's.
William Rosen of 19345 11-Mile Rd., Roseville, Mich., visited in
Chicago, St. Louis, Denver and Los Angeles, and now is spending
the winter at El Paso, Tex.
Saul R. Levin has left for Mexico and Guatemala on a business
trip.
Lucene Saper, daughter of Mrs. Rose Saper, will arrive home
for her vacation Dec. 21 from the University of Miami, Coral Gables,
Fla.
Mrs. David B. Weber has been appointed to the "Michigan on
Canvas" committee. She was a guest at a luncheon given for the
committee by James Weber.
Mr. and Mrs. Philip Minus and Mr. and Mrs. N. Raskin spent
the week-end in Grand Rapids where they attended the Michigan
Dental Laboratory Guild Convention.
Paul Corby of Calvert Ave. left on Nov. 23 by plane for Europe
for a two month trip. He intends to visit England, France, Belgfum,
Switzerland, Czechoslovakia and Germany.
Mt. and Mrs. Abraham DeRoven of 4067 Kendall had as their
guest over the week-end Prof. Jacob Weinberg of New York. Prof.
Weinberg, eminent pianist and composer, was the guest artist at the
Hashofar Society concert at the-Jewish Center last Sunday. A re-
ception,•honoring Prof. Weinberg, was given after the concert at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. DeRoven. -
Rayetta Harris, Hilda Penfil, Charlotte Nelson, Mildred Bright-
man and Fay Stollman were Detroit delegates to the seventh annual
convention of Junior Mizrachi Women's Organization of America in
New Yopk.
Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Bleier left for Miami Beach, Fla., to visit
with their daughter, Mrs. L. Surowitz, and her two children, of
Pontiac.
Mr. and Mrs. Markus S. Simon have moved from McQuade Ave.
and are now residing at 3030 Webb Ave.

Miss Yoffe is the first Palestin-
ian born delegate to the Pioneer
Women. She was born in Tiber-
ias and educated in Tel-Aviv.
She studied in France and was
secretary to Professor Zelig Bro-
detsky, head of the Political De-
partment of the Jewish Agency in
London. Miss Yoffe served four
years with the Palestine Terri-
torial Auxiliary Service in Egypt
and attained the rank of lieuten-
ant.
Miss Yoffe, who arrived in this
country about a month ago,
represents 70,000 women organ-
ized into the Working Women's
Council of Palestine.
Emma Shaver, who recently
returned from an eight months'
trip through Europe, will relate
her experiences with the displac-
ed persons in the DP camps.
The annual donor event of the
Pioneer Women's Clubs will be
held on Wednesday afternoon,
Jan. 15, at Masonic Te.nple, to
benefit the Child-Rescue Fund
and the Kfar-Saba Children's
Home.

of the Jewish War Veterans at
the second of its current series
of public program meetings to be
held at JWV Hall, 8212 12th St.

Events in Palestine." The oc-

two technicolor films, "Home are
the Hunted," and They Live
Again."
