Special Sermon
For Thanksgiving

"Thanksgiving Without Com-
placency" will be the subject of
Rabbi Leon Pram's sermon at the
special Thanksgiving Sabbath
Eve service of Temple Israel, at
8:30 p. m. Nov. 29 in the lecture
hall of the Detroit Institute of
Arts.
Cantor Robert S. Tulman and
Organist Karl W. Hass have
arranged a program of special
Thanksgiving music for the occa-
sion.
At this service Melvin Shute-
vitz., son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman
Shulevitz, will celebrate his Bar
Mitzvah. Mr. and Mrs. Shulevitz
will be hosts to the congregation
at a Thanksgiving reception in
honor of their son in the Roman-
esque hall of the Detroit Institute
of Arts.
A youth symposium on the
theme of the Rabbi's sermon,
conducted by the Youth Group
of Temple Israel, will follow the
reception.
This Friday night, Rabbi Fram
will lecture on "Who Menaces
World Peace—Russia, Bfilain or
the U.S.A.?" and will conduct
the baby naming ceremonial in
honor of Diana Jo Pliskow.

Bnai David, JWV Hold
Special Joint Service
For Thanksgiving Day

Special Thanksgiving services
will be held at Cong. Bnai David,
Elmhurst and 14th, on Thanks-
giving Day, Thursday, at 11 a: m.
All are invited.
This service is jointly spon-
sored by the Dept. of Michigan
Jewish War Veterans of Ameri-
ca, Dr. Perry Burnstine, com-
mander, and the ladies auxiliar-
ies, Mrs. Morris Lupiloff, presi-
dent. Presentation of colors will
be made by the drill teams of
these posts of JWV.
Rabbi Joshua Sperka will
speak on "Post-War Thanksgiv-
ing". Cantor Hyman Adler will
direct the musical portion of the
service. Shirley Cannon and
Agnes Silverman of Bnai David
Religious School will represent
the school in a brief dramatiza-
tion on "Thanksgiving for the
Constitution and Judaism." The
Bnai David Boy Scout Troop and
Girl Scout Troop will participate.

be Dr. Julian B. Feibelman,
Rabbi of Temple Sinai in New
Orleans. Dr. Feibelman, one of
the outstanding Reform Rabbis
in the country, was a clrmsmate
of Dr. Glazer at Hebrew Union
College.
The combined choirs of the
North Woodward Congregation-
al Church and Temple Beth El
will render a program of special
music. A reception for Dr. and
Mrs. Glazer will be held in the
Social Hall following the ser-
vices.

Bnai Moshe Students
Erdphasize Mandate
At Assembly Program

"The Palestine Mandate" was
the theme of an assembly held
Nov. 17 by the Sunday School
students of Cong. Bnai Moshe.
The purpose of the program
was to arouse the students to real
the Mandate and the Balfour De-
claration. Participation of the
children in this educational cam-
paign is being fostered by an
essay contest on the subject
"What Rights do the Jewish Peo-
ple Have to Palestine Under the
Mandate?"
Participating in the program
were Gloria Efraim, Gloria Bro-
warny, Rita Kahn, Sandra Lobel,
Rosalie Berg, Gladys Rivkin, Lil-
lian Lipshaw, Bruce Nussbaum,
Elaine Iczkowitz, Marion Novo-
minsky, Bernice Kogan, Barbara
Weiss, James Derenfeld, and
Dolores Loeffler.
"Save a Child" has become the
campaign charity slogan for the
Sunday School students. The
school has accepted the duties of
a minyan to gather $240 to send
a child to Palestine.

the radio fantasy to be presented
on "The Eternal Light" at '12:30
p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, on station
WWJ.
"The Four Spinsters of Gimel,"
written by Morton Wishengrad,
tells the story of the young girls
and their lack of dowries.

Congregation Plans Annual
Community Wide Rites
on Thanksgiving

A social afternoon, with danc-
ing, entertainment, and refresh-
ments on the program, is planned
by the Temple Israel Youth
Group .for 2:30 p. m. this Sunday,
in the Temple's meeting room,
611 Boulevard Bldg., Woodward
at Grand Blvd.
The Youth Group will hold
its third youth symposium based
on the sermon of the evening,
following the Friday night ser-
vices this Friday, in the Lecture
Hall of the Detroit Institute of
Arts.
Other Youth Group activities
now in progress include an art
group, which meets Wednesday
evenings, and a young people's
choir, which is rehearsing for
the annual youth Sabbath ser-
vice of Temple Israel, scheduled
for the first Friday in March.

Shaarey Zedek will be held at
8:15 p.m. this Friday, Nov: 22.
At the service in the Main
Synagogue Rabbi Morris Adler
will speak on "Achieving Peace
of Mind." Cantor Sonenklar and
his choir will present new Sab-
bath melodies.
Following the service there
will be an Oneg Shabbat in the
Social Hall. Harry Cohen. pres-
ident of the congregation, will
welcome the audience. Rabbi
Adler will discuss "A Shelf of
Current Books."
Congregation Shaarey Zedek
will hold its annual community-
wide Thanksgiving Day service at
11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 28, in the
Main Synagogue.
Rabbi Adler will preach on the
topic "A Declaration of Indepen-
dence." Cantor Sonenklar will
chant the prayers. Shaarey Zedek
Boy and 'Girl Scout troops will
participate. The public is invited.
