Marenof Talks on Hebrew Alphabet Elect Rabbi Fram
At Kvutzah Ivrith Program Saturday To WZO Parley

Kvutzah Ivrith, the Hebrew
Cultural Group of Detroit, in-
vites the Hebrew speaking public
to a lecture by Shlomo Marenof,
educator and author, Saturday
viening, Nov. 9, in the auditor-
ium of the Rose Sittig Cohen
Building. Admission is free.
The topic of his lecture is
"The Hebrew Alphabet—Its Ori-
gin and Development Throughout
the Ages."
Marenof, a graduate of the
Hebrew University in Jerusalem,
received, his Master's degree at
the University of Chicago, where
he also served as an instructor
in the Hebrew language. He also
was a member of the faculty of
the College of Jewish Studies of
Chicago.
He is the author of an entire
series of Hebrew textbooks for
adults and for children of school
age which are used in the U. S.
and in Palestine. Two of his
major studies in the University
of Jerusalem were archaeology
and philogy. He contributed
scientific articles on these sub-
jects to the American Journal of

Adolf Weis, Noted
Club Caterer, Dies

Adolf Weis, manager of Knoll-
wood Country Club for many
years, died Oct. 28, in Harper
Hospital, after a short illness.
-Funeral services were held Oct.
31 at Lewis Bros. Chapel. Burial
was in Los Angeles.
Born in Hungary 65 years ago,
Mr. Weis had lived in Detroit 40
years and earned the friendship,
respect and affection of the whole
Jewish community through his
many years of service in the
catering field.
Mr. Weis first worked for the
old Ponchartrain Hotel. and was
later catering manager of the
Phoenix Club. Subsequently, he

Hall of the Detroit Institute of
Arts Tuesday evening, Nov. 19,
and will feature two guest art-
ists from neighboring cities, Dor-
othy Ornest, soprano, of Ann Ar-
bor, and Dr. Jerome Gross, violin-
, ist, of Cleveland.
Miss Ornest has made appear-
ances throughout the states of
New York and Michigan, and
now presents a weekly radio re-
cital for the University of Mich-
igan. In Detroit, she is best known
as soprano soloist for Temple
Israel.
Dr. Gross has given many re-
citals in Cleveland, New York,
and Chicago, including one in
Town Hall in New York. On one
occasion he played the Tschai-
kowsky Concerto with Victor
Kolar, former associate director
of the Detroit Symphony, con-
ducting. This will be his first De-
troit concert.
Tickets for all concerts of the
Halevy series are now obtainable
