Lady Spears' New Book
Whitewashes General,
Sir Harold M'Michael
Gen. Edward Spears is reputed
to be one of the most destructive
leaders. in the British Colonial
Office set-up which is out to des-
troy Jewish achievements in Pal-
estine and to prevent realization
of Jewish hopes. His wife, a na-
tive Chicagoan who writes under
her maiden 'name, Mary Borden.
has just written an account of
her activities as head of a hos-
pital unit in the Middle East.
Her boOk, "Journey Down a
Blind Alley." (Harper's New
York), ably and interestingly
written, while it steers clear
of issues in Palestine, by innu-
endo shows her true colors in
her reference to Harold Mac-
Michael, former High Commis-
sioner, who truly was an evil
genius more responsible than
any other man for Jewish trou-
bles in Zion. But Mary Borderi
speaks of him as a man who
steered a steady course quietly.
Lady Spears tells sympathetic-
ally the story of the suffering by
Jewish women under the Ger-
mans. But this one bit of sym-
pathy does not atone for the mass
of other evidence that she uses
to whitewash the activities of
Gen. Spears and. Sir Harold Mac-
Michael, two of Jewry's avowed
enemies.
Otherwise. "Journey Down a
