Stressing the importance of
participation by young Jewish
adults in the Community Chest
drive, Fred M. Butzel,- chairman
of the executive committee of the
Jewish Welfare Federation, urged
the more than 700 people attend-
ing the first general meeting of
the Junior Service Group to join
for community action under the
auspices of the JSG, at a ,meet
ing last Sunday at the Jewish
Center.
Mr. Butzel pointed out that the
Junior Service Group is the out-
standing Detroit organization for
community action which cuts
across all shades of political opin-
ion and which can appeal to
orthodox, conservative or reform
Jewish youth.
The enthusiastic response to
this invitation to membership will
enable the JSG to maintain an
even wider and more varied pro-
gram than had been planned for
1946, according to Harold N..
Rosemont, co-chairman of the
membership committee.
A variety program of enter-
tainment was presented through
the efforts of Henry Ehrlich.
Professional entertainers who do-
nated their services include Mel
Snyder, master of ceremonies;
the Glenn Moore Quartet, featur-
ing Jane Palmer, from Beau-
champ's; Jim DeLand, pianist, of
Sid's Cafe, and Jack Gordon,
vocalist, of the Tropics.
Persons 16-30 interested in
joining the JSG should get
in touch with any member of the
membership committee or with
Harry A. Heller, executive sec-
retory, TE. 1-1600. The commit-
tee includes: Mr. Rosemont and
Danny Raskin, co-chairmen; Lil-
lian Finkelstein, Fannie Fleisch-
man, Sarah B. Goldberg, Barbara
A. Greenberg, Nora Ingher, Irene
Jaffa, Donald J. Korotkin, Gerald
M. Kutzen, G. Vernon Leopold,
Madelaine S. Levenberg, Nor-
mand Meyer, Harriet S. Noch-
man, Esther L. Pelavin, Helen R.
Smiley, Nathan Spinner, Gertrude
Strauss, Gertrude Stulberg, Evel-
yn Talon, Chalamus Tigel and
Rudolph A. Weil.
Dr. Samuel Krohn. chairman
of the program committee, pre-
sented a report on JSG meetings
for the corning year. He an-
nounced that the November
meeting will be devoted to a dis-
eUBSi0n of overseas Jewish relief
activities.

An overflow audience on Tuesday evening, at the
Shaarey Zedek, heard Edgar Ansel Mowrer, noted foreign
correspondent, excoriate not only Great Britain but also-our
own government for failure to adhere to pledges made to the
Jewish people for the establishment of the Jewish National

Mr. Mowrer charged that re-
sponsible American leaders had
entered into "an obscene partner-
ship"' with the British in the
Middle East. He charged that we

attempt to liquidate Zionism.

Mr. Mowrer's Address

Charging that the London con-
ference which aimed at the parti-
ti o n of Palestine had failed, Mr.
Mowrer said:
"Clearly the British scheme
seems to be either to bully Jews
of Palestine into accepting their
own death, or goad them into an
armed rebellion and break their
resistance. In considering this
