Joe Litvin, 18, editor-in-chief of Center News, has been honored by National Scholastic 'Press As- sociation, and Quill and Scroll, for outstanding work in journ- alism. He began his journalistic career in Hutchins Intermediate where he was a member of the school newspaper, and upon graduation, he was awarded the "American Legion Certificate of School Award" for his achievements in "scholarship, leadership and ser- vice." He went to Cass Tech, where he majored in drafting. He was editor of Cass "Outlook" for three years. At Cass, Joe founded the Quill and Scroll chapter and became its first president. Litvin has started to build his own "newspaper empire," as co- publisher of the Model and Plane News, a local newspaper slanted towards the interests of model builders and light plane enthus- iasts. Davison Mothers' Club will meet in the Workmen's Circle Educational Center next Thurs- day, 8 p. m., to hold the first so- cial of the season. • • • JoselA Katz Named Kvutzah's President At the annual election meet- ing •of Kvutzah Ivrith, held last Saturday evening at the Rose. Sit- tig Cohen Building, the following officers were elected: - " Joseph Katz, president; K. Pal- man and Samuel Lehrman, vice- presidents; S. - Kasdan, secretary; J. Cashdan, finance secretary; Sol Edelman, treasurer; Joseph Hag- gai and Norman Ruttenberg, chairman of cultural programs; M. Michlin, chairman of com- mittee for propagation of Hebrew books and head of Hebrew Day; Morris Plafkin, reporter; B. Isaacs and Aaron Tobak, editors of an- nual Hebrew publication Had Ha Kvutzah; Samuel Lehrman, fin- ancial secretary of Hebrew pub- lication. Joseph Haggai presided at the meeting at which a detailed re- port of cultural activities of the past year was submitted by B. Isaacs. He reported that out of town speakers included Prof. Simon Halkin, Mordecai Halevi, Mordecai Medini, Mr. Shustak and Mrs. Kukso of Palestine. A ad- number of local people dressed the Kvutzah. M. Michlin told of the many Hebrew books which were spread in Detroit. Mrs. Julius Ring, fin- ancial secretary, and Joshua Joy- rish, treasurer, submitted reports. Mrs. Abraham Panush and Mrs. J. Winokur reported on activities of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Kvutzah. Abraham Shechter led Kvutzah members and their friends in community singing. Other radio speakers over WJLB for Education Month were Morris Lachover, Joseph Haggai, M. S. Kasdan. Partici- pants of the round table discus- sion over WWJ were Charles Rubiner, moderator; Rabbi Mor- ris Adler and Mrs. Joseph H. Ehrlich.
