Detroit Quota Set at $ 100,000; Local Group to Honor Its

Morris L. Fruman Heads Committee

Nathan R. Epstein, president of
the Detroit Auxiliary of the Los
Angeles Sanatorium, will be hon-
ored at a banquet to be held at
the Fort Wayne Hotel on Sunday
evening, Dec. 1, in recognition of
his efforts in behalf of the sana-
torium, it was announced this
week.
Morris L. Fruman was chosen
chairman of the banquet com-
mittee. Irwin I. Cohn, David
Goldberg, Albert Schiller and
Harry Victor are associate chair-
men. William Fisher is vice-
chairman. Jack W. Epstein and
Eugene J. Epstein head the en-
tertainment committee.

Plans for the banquet and for
the year's fund-raising activities
will be made at a luncheon meet-
ing of the committee next Wed-
nesday at the Detroit Leland Ho-
tel.
Announcing that the Detroit
committee will participate active-
ly in plans for the creation of a
National Medical Center at "City
of Hope," Duarte, Calif., the
home of the sanatorium, Mr. Ep-
stein stated that the Detroit Aux-
iliary's goal will be $100,000. Mr.
Epstein declared that plans for
the National Medical Center are
based on the following objec-
tives:
1. The need for pioneering in
a new and effective medical care
program such as does not exist
any where today.
2. The need to create a move-
meht revolving around a service
which would make a rich con-
tribution to Jewish and non-Jew-
ish life in America.
3. The need to provide a med-
ical school nurses' school which
would train students without dis-
crimination because of race, re-
ligion or national origin.
The center, when completed, is
expected to equal in technical
excellence institutions of the
highest standards and will ren-
der the finest in social service by
dedicating itself. to the care of
those unable to pay.
Continuing a policy followed
faithfully for 33 years in opera-
tion of the Los Angeles Sanator-
ium, the new project will be
guided by the vast masses of peo-
ple who snake that venture pos-
sible.

Increased efforts in behalf of the Jewish National Fund,
inauguration of campaigns fOr increased memberships and
pledges to carry on the work to aid the working women's
projects in Palestine were included in decisions of the re-
gional conference of Pioneer Women's Organization of Ameri-
ca, held at the Detroit Leland Hotel last week-end.

The 63 accredited delegates at
the sessions represented Michi-
gan, Ohio, Indiana and Pennsyl-
vania chapters.
The Oneg Shabbat held Satur-
day was devoted to celebrating
the 21st anniversary of the or-
ganization.
