Jive Junction, dance and social every Sunday afternoon, is planned by the Intermediate Lounge Committee of the Jewish Center. Survivors Laugh Again European refugees (above) are integrated into American life through a program of social. recrea- tional and educational activities under direction of Mrs. Alice Schwab. The Center program and planning for refugees is carried on in cooperation with the Detroit Resettlement Service. GIs Dance Free memberships await the soldier and sailor shown in the above photo upon discharge from service. More than 1.600 veterans are mem- bers and are entitled to all the -privileges of the Jewish - Center progrant and activities. Center Highlights Health Education Facilities of the health education department provide oppor- tunities for men and women of all age groups for physical recrea- tion: Health Club for Men and Women (Described on p. 2); Men's and Boys Activities—a full schedule of pool and gym hours is avail- able. and sub-seniors and up may avail themselves of boxing, wrestling. weight lifting. life saving. athletic leagues, jiu jitsu, bad- minton and fencing; Girls' and Women's Activities—a full schedule of pool and gym hours is available, and girls and women may avail themselves of life saving, volleyball. badminton, Center dance Group. fencing: Co-ed Activities—men and women, boys and girls can enjoy a wide range of co-ed activities including modern dancing. dancers- in-training. Center dance Group. tap dancing, square dancing. tango, rhumba. badminton, mixed swimming, fencing, jiu jitsu. Special Activities Special activities include: Games Rooms—the games rooms are equipped with billiard and ping pong tables and bowling alleys; Mothers' Clubs (described on page 3): Holiday Hops—these feature every legal and Jewish holiday. catering to the young adult grouP; Art Exhibits—Featuring the work of local artists, of national and international, celebrities, and of Center students; Camps—in the summer, the Center operates a stay-at-home camp called Camp Habonim; Center News—The official house organ of the Center is Published by the Journalism Club, and is mailed to members. Services to the Community Services include: Vocational Service—The Center conducts a youth guidance program and gives special attention to the questions of transition for young people from military to civil life: Resettle- ment Service—the Center, in cooperation with the Resettlement Service, offers a varied program which includes sewing groups, weekly discussion groups, games, and monthly social programs; Pro- grams for Men and Women in Military Service—the Center, as a constituent member of the Jewish Welfare Board, in turn a con- stituent of the 1JSO, has cooperated with the parent organization in providing religious, social and cultural activities for servicemen and in making available the facilities and services of the Center for IMO programa.
